I would like to start this with: PLEASE do not flame me for the decision to circumcise.

Okay, so my DS is 18 months today. He went in for his well baby check and the Dr. told me that I need to start retracting my sons penis, before I knew what he was doing, he forcibly retracted his penis and my son screamed his head off. Tonight in the bath he was very upset as it hurt very badly.

I'm actually really upset about this- was it right for him to pull back the skin like that? My instinct is saying no.

NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The penis is just fine on its own, your DS will eventually retract it on his own in his own time.

Okay, so besides the fact that I feel like the worst mother on the planet for not stopping the doctor before I knew what he was doing, what do I do now?

I'm beyond mad. Mad at myself for not researching this better, mad at myself for not speaking up during the visit. I cried my eyes out on the way out of the office.

So...anything I can do to help ease the pain? I'm definitely looking into another Dr. Can he have lasting damage because of this? He told me to do this EVERY time I give DS a bath (no, I am not listening to him).

Like I said he's 18 months old.

OMG! How awful!! Sounds like you didn't get a chance to even stop it. I'm so sorry for you both . What a horrible dr. I would certainly file a complaint with that clinic. He should talk to you before just doing that.

I don't have any good advice on how to help your ds feel better now though. I guess let the skin do its thing and make sure it stays clean to avoid any infections as its healing. Your poor boy

I am so sorry your doctor violated your son like that. Let it heal and watch for redness, discomfort, infection. Then leave it alone. And make sure to keep your hand over his diaper area at all times and refuse to let the doctor touch him, or find a new doc...preferably both.

yes find a new doc. nothing you can rally do exsept try to give it alot of diaper/clothing free time so air can get to it and nice soft clothing until it can heal on its own.

i would file a complaint with the clinic though! how many other poor children has this doctor hurt and told their parents to hurt? poor babies

my son is intact so I don't have experinece with a circed penis but I am confused- what would there be to retract if he is circed???
in an intact penis the foreskin may not retract for years, my son is 6 and it still hasn't fully retrcated. when he was young his doc would GENTLY pull back the foreskin to see if it had retracted and to see if everything was working as it should, but he would never have encouraged me to force it back! that is shocking and so wrong, do complain to the clinic manager and warn your friends against this md.

This is actually the AAP on care of an uncircumcised penis but you might find it helpful as it address retraction.

http://www.medem.com/search/article_..._typ=NAV_SERCH

PP, circumcision isn't exact so different doctors with cut off different amounts of foreskin, most boys have some left on. If it is all cut off it is very painful when the penis becomes erect.

I know what she means, my son had the same thing happen to him.
The skin grew back into the "rim" and before I knew it, the Dr. retracted it back and it bleed.
