This may turn into a rambling thread, but I want to write it out to get my mind cleared. It's a companion thought to this thread: http://www.mothering.com/discussions...d.php?t=531788

It's also a result of the April Office Challenge. Well, I'm going to keep working in here for the month of May because I want to make my room pretty as well. That will take a few more weeks.

Anyways...things I have come to discover while in my craft mess (admittedly, this room wasn't that poorly organized, but there was just way too much!) Remember, I have gone through this room many times. This time, I kept trying to envision the end product of what I want this space to be. I want it to be a relaxing haven, not a junk room, so some serious changes need to be made!

1) I can admire an item (medium, technique) without feeling the compulsion to run out and buy the supplies. It's okay to be *just* an admirer.

2) Just because you can diy, it doesn't mean you have to. It's okay to focus my hobby time on what I want. I can buy the rest guilt-free. I'm not sure why I have allowed making gifts for others to take priority over making things for me or working on my scrapbooks.

3) Getting rid of UFOs is an incredible way to release guilt. I can't even tell you how thrilled and freed up I feel right now. half-pieced quilt top that I don't even know what I would do with the finished project but started as a tester for a class I was thinking of teaching--gone!! extra bolt of fabric from previous home dec project that I am frankly sick of looking at, yes, I could use this to decorate my bedroom, but it's gone!!! You get the idea.

4) Limits are actually a way to free up creativity! I know it sounds kind of crazy, but I thrive with a limited set of things or a problem. When there is just too much, I get overwhelmed and have a severe case of crafter's ADD.

5) My craft room is meant to serve me. I am the boss.

I have more work to do, but I am feeling a huge weight lifted this week. On Monday, it was so out of control that I told a friend I was considering just giving it all up. But now, I have realized that I just need to limit and focus.

This was probably a long, boring read, but I feel better.

no this is a great thing! I am going to have my own craft room soon and I enjoy reading what you're saying. I declutter my scrapbooking stash quite frequently. ITs easier to do though since its all packed in a larger holder that has wheels etc and I take it to my crops.

BUT, I want to have my room house my sewing, craft area, maybe office and also a place for the girls to eventually do homework since the room will be on another floor away from the tv area.

I attach a lot of guilt to my crafting supplies. It's all in boxes in the basement, sewing (I have a scary stash of fabric and patterns: ), cross stitch, plastic canvas, ect... I do keep my scrapbooking stuff in my room, but it's in need of a good going through.

I am planning on going through my fabric this week and being honest about what I will never use. Then it will be UFO clearing time.

I would love to have a craft room, or even a small space so I could leave things out! I got so much done in the old days when I had a desk to scrap at or was able to leave my sewing stuff out.
