I currently live in Minneapolis and got a job offer in Richmond that I am considering. Could anyone give me an idea of the better areas, better for kids? Tell me all about your life in Richmond!!!

I'm assuming you mean Richmond, VA, the great capital! I love it here! We moved here from Northern VA/DC area last year, and we are so happy we did. The people are nice and friendly. The traffic is hardly anything. There are different demographics here than we are used to in terms of politics, religion, education, and smoking, but I'm still so happy we moved here.

Great areas for kids are Midlothian in Chesterfield County and Glen Allen in Henrico County. Lots of families, lots of kids, great schools, safe neighborhoods. I also have friends who love living downtown, in the Fan, and in Carytown. It really depends on what kind of lifestyle and home you would like.

Lots of great things to do with kids here--Maymont, the Children's Museum, feeding giraffes at the zoo, nice parks. There is also a wonderful mommies group that would make anyone feel welcome!

Just inquiring as to what mommies group you're talking about.

What she said. I just wanted to add, Varina in the far eastern part of Henrico is really kid friendly and affordable too. We've got a huge yard and part of it's not even cleared. The kids are loving to run around and play in it. There are plenty of newer developments going up and a new middle school will open in the fall, followed by a new hs in a few years. Lots of farms and at many you can buy produce there. You may have to drive to get where you want to be, but it's nice, rural (to be so close to the city), and quiet. We moved out here last year from the West End and really like it.
