Ricki Lake is co-hosting on The View, and they are talking about normal births only needing midwifery and the benefits of homebirth and waterbirth. Nice to see something "mainstream" talking about it positively!<br><br>
She's talking about how she had a epidural hospital birth, then had another at home and how much different it was.

Ricki made a documentary of her homebirth! "The business of being born" I cant wait to see it. They showed a clip and it looked very positive.<br><br>
Everyone except Joy was really awesome about it, they even joked about bringing a pool on the set for Elizebeth to use <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/smile.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="smile"><br><br>

I saw it! I got so excited to hear someone finally talk about other options. Heck I really really didnt know about other options until a friend of mine had a water birth at a birth center. No one tells you about other options you know.<br><br>

I expected my family to take the news about me having a homebirth a little harder. Especially my grandma. Years ago I mentioned it, and she practically freaked out about it being too risky. (She is also the only one in the family who had positive hospital experiences, with an OB who just observed from a comfortable distance and comforted her and didn't try to intervene.)<br><br>
But, about a year ago, a family friend who used to rent a room from my grandma had an attempted home water birth. She ended up transferring. I guess my grandma got used to the idea of it existing, and was comforted by seeing that there IS an option to go to the hospital in an emergency, so when I announced my homebirth she didn't say a word.

I saw it.. I wished that they would have let Ricky talk a little more about her documentary. Seems like everyone was in a fighting mood today. Usually they're not so bad about yelling and talking over each other unless they're talking about the war.<br><br>
I missed Elizabeth's announcement that she's prego (was it yesterday?). I've been suspecting it for quite a while though. How far along is she? Three months?

I Tivo-d it (ever since Rosie started making waves, the View has been my dirty little secret) and I'm watching it right now. Ricki did a GREAT job... I can't wait to see her documentary. The clip they showed brought tears to my eyes, heck, anything to do with birth can get me going. Good for her!<br><br>
Yes, Elisabeth is 3 months pregnant, announced yesterday. Surprisingly she sounds much more open to the whole thing than I expected. Not that she's going to run out there and find a midwife, but she wasn't poo-pooing the whole home birth thing either. Unfortunately Joy really isn't into it, a pity because I often like what she has to say.<br><br>
What a great thing that a show like the View would have this on! Ricki is a guest host so she's there for the whole show.

Go Ricki! I watched the clip, and I can't believe I am actually saying this, but I wish I had seen <i>The View</i> yesterday. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/lol.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="lol"><br>
I'd love to see the documentary. From what I saw on the clip, she stated her position very well, and I hope she can take her message beyond <i>The View</i>, and even deeper into the mainstream.
