Hi! My 1 year old (i can't beleive i'm typing that! wow!) is now walking (that too!) and we have a very large open roof terrace which is where we do the majority of our hang out time. (we do not have a yard and the park is a good 15 min. walk away...we do go...but not every day)

I'm wondering if a ride on toy would be good for him. I'd like to get him one but not sure where to start. Any suggestions?

Also OT, but its my thread so why not...if you have any fun ideas for outside stuff that would work on a roof, that would be great. I wish we could do a swing but that's not really possible. We will get a little kiddy pool for the summer, and he has some balls up there, but other than that i have no idea what to do for playtime up there.

Thanks!

My dd got this one: http://www.toysrus.com/product/index...entPage=family for her first b-day and absolutely loves it. She always liked to push it around or ride on it, and put stuff in the seat (the seat lifts up for storage or whatever you want)

But, the ones that have a handle so you don't have to bend over to push them in it are nice, too.

Honestly, every type of ride-on toy we've ever come across our dd has liked (As well as all other kids around) so I don't think you can go wrong!

Land of Nod has this awesome wooden truck on sale for $35:

http://www.landofnod.com/family.aspx...8000&isOutlet=

If I could justify buying it I really would--it looks awesome. I have also heard wonderful reviews of this:

http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html...sin=B000GWYCPQ

This for a bit bigger todders, but ds just got something similar to this for his birthday except his looks more like a real bike. He has been on a little red push toy that looks like a car (shown in the bottom of this pic). He really liked that. He could push it when he was really little, then converts to a rider after.

Dd got the wheely bug for Christmas, and it is really cute. It took her a while to get into it because it was harder for her to scoot on the carpet, but it rolls very quickly on hard surfaces. We have the small size, and it almost seems too small for her--and she's a very small girl. She did also tip it forward a few times, because the seating seems to distribute her weight forward more. She really has just gotten to enjoy it in the past month or so (she just turned two).

For her first birthday, when she was newly walking, she got the Fisher Price corn popper and it has been one of her all time favorite toys. She likes to put things in the compartment under the seat, she likes to ride it, and she likes to push it around with the handle. She still plays with it regularly.

We have a little "car" that is just like the one Beana's_mommy posted, except our is the Mickey Mouse kind(from Toys'R'Us). My daughter and her friends love it.
I'd also suggest a sandbox- my daughter's daycare provider got one for $10 on Craigslist and the kids love it.

I was very lucky last year and got 3 great ride ons from Freecycle-they looked like they'd never been used! One was a wooden Radio Flyer horse and the other a Little Tykes zebra. A former salesperson that dh used to deal with at work gave ds an antique VW Bug pedal ride in car, too! He doesn't pedal the car, just drives it a la Fred Flintstone (stands and walks!). The other's he's finally getting the hang of doing it on his own since his short little legs can finally reach the floor!

Wow thanks for the info. I emailed the wheely bug maker and they said it wouldn't work well on our roof with divets...and it would wear out the wheels. cute as it is i think it will have to wait!

So far this corn popper one is the winner...but i will await more replies. I can't spend too much, and i also have to find it in the UK. At Hamleys i found a little wooden ride-on, for a fine price, but it was LITTLE and i didn't think it would work for long.

Ok, keep ideas comin'!

ours is cool b/c it came in plain white and then you can paint it. we have been waiting till this summer to have fun painting it outside. you can wash it off and paint again too.
