ripping out help

569 Views 4 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  stashalou
I am working on my LTK soaker and am knitting the first row after inserting short rows. One of the wraps that I did was somehow done incorrectly and when I knit it (yes and I knit the wrap too
) it leaves a small hole. I can't see how to fix it, so I have to rip out the current row, and part of the previous row and the second short row... it's the second wrap, so it's the one I did after purling right? I'm trying to visualize it and I think that's right...

Anyway, I guess that is irrelevant - the point is I am terrified to rip out that much. How do you get the needles back in???

TIA!

I can't say anything about how to fix your short row situation. I have yet to attempt them (maybe my next soaker!), so I'm curious to see what others have to say.

Techniques with Theresa at Knitty.com has a nice little pice on unknitting:

HTH!
Thanks for that link. I picked back one stitch at a time until I was at the beginning of a round. Then I used the technique from knitty, but I had to take out one more row then necessary. The short rows were making me dizzy trying to follow the stitches straight across. On the ends I was ripping out two rows and in the middle it was four. That was tedious - but better than trying to live with the mistake which is what I was considering. But now I'm going to bed!!

I feel your pain! I am definitely a beginner and I regularly run up against this kind of thing.

The thing I try to do when I am learning a new technique is read as many different explanations as possible. Even reading the same one over repeatedly seems to help. Here are 2 for short rows in case you haven't already stumbled across them:

I also purposely bought my yarn at a local knitting shop rather than online so I could go in and get help when I get really stuck. They charge $20 per hour for 1:1 lessons, which I am not tripping over myself to pay. Plus, when I need help, it's not an hour of help that I need. So far I have gone in twice to ask a question about something I messed up and they have been really nice.

Good luck!

I'd seen the knittinghelp video but not the knittingatknoon. One has you wrap a stitch then turn (as in the LTK pattern) and the other has you turn THEN wrap. It shouldn't make a difference as long as whichever one I do I do right. Oh well - I got one of them right so I'll just be more careful. I think I was watching T.V. while knitting

By the way, it really is invisible when done right! Very cool...
