Rit dye and newborn baby?

A friend dyed some clothing for our little one, and I'm a little nervous about using something with fresh chemicals on a brand new baby. Any thoughts on rit dye and a new baby?

Can you wash the item several times? I'd do that for any new item, and certainly something that I know was recently dyed with something like RIT.
I'm thinking of doing diapers. So I'm lurking...

Any other thoughts on this? Would washing a few times be sufficient?

RIT is really not the best dye out there(I am being nice). For cotton and other natural fibers there are much better and cheaper options. Fiber Reactive dyes, whether you get Dylon Cold Water dyes or Procion MX type(what they sell at Dharma) are permanent and per ounce cheaper than RIT.

I always advise to stay away from RIT and other similar dyes i.e. Dylon All-purpose dye.

OP they only advice I have is to wash several times in hopes to get out any excess unfixed dye.
