Root canal for 3 yr old

So not only did my ds have a herpes virus that caused mouth ulcers but he had an abcess. We went back today for a check up from last week. They did another x-ray and this time saw an infection. So they did a root canal. Geesh, he's only 3 yrs old. I feel like a horrible mother. I don't let my kids eat crap, I brush their teeth, and I floss them. Why is he having all these problems? It's so frustrating. I'm not one of those parents that neglects her childrens health and teeth. It seems it doesn't matter.

He has a presription for antibiotics and I got some (gasp) children's tylenol. Ever read the ingredients in that stuff? Ugh. Well, I got it because he is hurting and it will help. I don't abuse the meds so a little every now and then when he really needs it is ok. Why is it that you can't get a pain reliever without a fever reducer?

Does anyone have suggestions for a more natural pain reliever? Also, what probiotics should I give him? I guess I'll post this in another forum as well. When I have time (what's that?) I'll do a search.

Needed to vent. It's been a very crappy two weeks.

HUGS!!!!

I don't have any answers for you right away, but I wanted to let you know that I have felt all this and it is very frustrating! It seems that every kid my dd's age has parents that do very little in the dental hygine area and they have perfect teeth. My dd, at 20 months, has undergone general anesthesia for 5 crowns, 1 filling, and sealants. We started noticing decay at 13 months.
I was doing no different than any other mother I knew and we got hit with all the bad stuff.....

Even after we really began to be diligent with great dental hygine, things just kept getting worse. It seems so unfair!

And to top it off, I got blamed b/c I nursed her at night. Everyone seemed to be on the weaning bandwagon, even my DH (I did win him over to my side eventually
). I knew it was not my milk, but everyone around me seemed to think it was their place to tell me it was. Like I was a bad mom for giving my baby the best.

Anyway, we made it through the worst (I hope....) and things are finally looking up. All that to say this, you are not a bad mama and you have done nothing wrong. I think these things just hit certain people and there is nothing you could have done to prevent it. I believe that if we are given a problem in life, that we have the strength to make it through with flying colors! Moreover, I believe that we are never given a problem we cannot handle. Besides, you are a mama.....and that means you can handle just about anything, right???

Hang in there. Things will get better.

We were up all night with my very cranky and hurting little boy. I'm giving him tylenol and it does not work very well. I've been told to alternate between tylenol and motrin for pain relief. I feel so bad for him.
We used Motrin for Liddie's pain relief after she had her crowns. It seemed to work better than Tylenol. Have you tried any homeopathic remedies? I am very new to them, so I can't give you much advice, but to say that the Hylands items seem to be awesome. You might ask around and see if others would have some suggestions.

I feel for your little one! Liddie just screams in pain when we brush now b/c Gingivitis set in.
But we have to brush her teeth or it will be really bad. It is so hard to see our babies in such pain.

HUGS!

I went and bought some motrin so I hope that will help more than the tylenol.

I'm so sorry for your little girl. Gosh and there are people who do nothing for their children's teeth and have no problems.
: Our poor babies.
