running with a regular stroller?

I have a 6 week old and I use one of the travel system strollers- car seat that attaches, four small wheels... Would it be absolutely ridiculous to try and run with this? I did it for a couple blocks today and it seemed doable.

Sorry, but I probably wouldn't, for a couple of reasons. First of all, a regular stroller is not designed for shock absorption. The wheels are probably hard plastic, so combine that with no shocks, and you're talking about a lot of impact translating up the stroller. That's a lot of bouncing around. 6 weeks old is kind of borderline (depends on who you talk to/what you're comfortable with) to be in a jogging stroller, anyway, so I *definitely* wouldn't put a little one that young in a non-jogging stroller that's going to have that much jostling around.

Then, in addition, by trying to run with a regular stroller, you're going to put a LOT of wear and tear on that stroller. Travel system strollers especially are not really known for being durable, so chances that the stroller will hold up for long under that kind of use are not great.

If it's a question of money, try checking craigslist or even freecycle for a jogging stroller. I've heard of lots of mamas getting great deals that way. Or even garage sales!

I know you are probably super eager to get out and get active again so I feel for you but I would recommend you wait a bit, as much as that sucks for now, it is probably best.

Also I bought my jogging stroller on a Craigslist type website for $50 so there are some great deals to be had if you look around.

Go for walks with your LO in a sling, I know it doesn't get you the cardio work, but it *will* condition your legs to be ready to run in 6 months or so when your little bobble head can safely ride in a jogging stroller. (Not that it takes 6 months to condition your legs, just that you won't have problems with your legs condition even if you only walk for 6 months)

Your baby'll also make a great weight for squats, and lunges, and will enjoy looking up at you as you do push-ups. Jumping jacks are great exercise that can induce giggles as well.

that's right, they make fully reclining jogging strollers.

You can (many women in the stroller class I belong to use a regular stroller or regular double), BUT they are often hard to steer and sometimes you get those weird off whack wheels like shopping carts. However, it is, for the most part doable. You usually can't use a jogging stroller with a baby until they are older. So, if I were you I'd just use what you have now and then get a regular jogging stroller when your baby is old enough to use one.
There's a huge difference between a regular and jogging stroller. My jogging stroller has a much smoother ride than my travel system. I didn't think my travel system had a bumpy ride until I used the jogging stroller--and it was a night and day difference.

If you get a jogging stroller that reclines all the way and put in a head support and consult with your HCP, you might be out there sooner than later. Our ped gave us clearance to use our jogging stroller when DD was 8 weeks old.

Ebay and Craigslist are awesome for finding used strollers in great shape!
