Does anyone know about healthy home decorating? We're - finally
- getting ready to buy a house and we're looking at houses that need cosmetic work so we don't have to pay for someone elses work. I know there are paints that are healthier, but I don't know why they are healthier, where to get them, what they are called. I know bamboo is supposed to be wonderful for floors because it is sustaintable, but again don't know where to get it, how much it costs, etc. Can't even think of what else I should be looking for in more "natural" choices. Anyone have any ideas? Anything else I need to look into? - I'm trying to find out about all the options before we buy so we're ready.

Thanks

You should look into "Natural Home" magazine. They have features about how to "green" a home that you move into, and they feature natural "green" types of products and articles. Also, their advertisements are for just the kinds of things you're looking for: bamboo flooring, etc.

As for the "whys", I read a book a while back about getting a nursery ready, but doing it the "nontoxic" way, and I can't remember the title right now, but it explained why paint is bad, and a whole host of other things I can't remember right now. But I can't remember the title! Maybe someone else will know what book I'm talking about and be able to supply the title.
Persephone thanks for the response. That's a great idea, I'll look for it. Thanks

We used Benjamin Moore eco-spec paint a few months ago and couldn't be happier. I think it was about $35/gallon. It hardly smells at all! For flooring, counter tops, etc. just do a simple google search and you'll find tons of info.
