The whole manicure/pedicure thing got me thinking:

What small thing(s) do we do to treat ourselves?

For me, it's my nightly 2-hour baths with a good book. I went to the library today and picked up Animal Farm, Life of Pi, Cry, the Beloved Country and The Thirteenth Tale. Oh, and with bubbles and a good drink, of course!

So, share your little pleasures in life that are just. for. you.

Once a week or so I go sit in a cafe with a coffee and a good book and just relax for a couple of hours in the evening. I also have dinner and see a movie with a friend every few weeks, but the cafe thing is mine and mine alone.

I read in the jacuzzi often, too. That's my idea of heaven The lights dimmed and my house quiet.

I also enjoy about an hr or so in the mornings by myself. Usually I am checking my email, searching MDC, or reading news articles with a yummy cup of coffee. My older two kids leave around 8:30 and my younger two don't wake up until 9:30-10:30 so I have at least an hr of peace and relaxation. I know that's not really something I 'do' to pamper myself like get a pedicure, but it feels like a luxury since the rest of my day in spent changing diapers and cleaning up kid messes.

What I need to do is make an appt. at the salon to get my hair cut. It's bad! when we drove by last night I told DH to let me know when he will be working from home again so I can go (by myself!) and get my hair done.

Once or twice a month I meet up with a group of friends for breakfast at a coffee shop. We get our kids on the bus and then head over for a cup of coffee and a pastry.

This morning for the first time in 9 months I had my hair done at the salon!! It was the most glorious 1.5 hours I have had in a long time. It was worth every cent I paid. Although I think I got a great deal for everything I got. I even bought some hair product.

I take a shower...lol. I go to town by myself to grab food or whatever. Um, I get to sleep in on the weekends. I get my hair cut when I need a pick-me-up, when I don't feel very pretty. And of course my pedi's!!!!

hmm. not happening as much as i'd like!

my DH is super, but he is working hard at work, and is finishing renovations at home, so my time is almost entirely as a kid-watcher/cook/ceo of household!

must aspire to more 'me' time.

I just went to New Zealand (ok, maybe that was my big pamper for the decade) and the mud was a truly brilliant find. My skin hasn't felt this soft since I was a tiny baby. It's awesome. *AND* the NZ dollar is worth ~1/2 the US dollar so folks from the US can mentally half those prices.

I waste too much time online, so I don't have the opportunities to really pamper myself - silly.

Little things...if both kids are napping (rare) or dh/ds1 is occupying the one who isn't (more common), I'll curl up on the couch with a book and a cup of herbal tea. I do enjoy warm/hot baths, occasionally with a bubble bath or "bath tea" added to them. I also try to fit in short yoga workouts, because they make me feel relaxed. About once every two years, I book an hour long massage at the spa - pure bliss. Once baby-under-construction arrives, I'm going to see if I can talk dh into bringing the baby up to the public pool, so that I can soak in the whirlpool, and still have baby nearby for when he/she needs to nurse. My kids are sitting at the whirlpool (just feet) after swimming lessons, and it's looking really, really good...

I also belong to a choir, and my rehearsals are self-pamper time.

ETA: I'm also going to the ICAN conference in April, and that's pure self-indulgence.

When I'm at my rope's end, and I need to 'run away from home', I go to a movie by myself and have popcorn for dinner.

Simple I know, but it really does it for me.

I have a spa day in my bathroom about once a week where I use a salt scrub, put a mask on my face, soak in essential oils, light a candle, and RELAX!!

I go to the gym 2x a week and workouts feel like pampering to me. I also sit in the hot tub and I shower at the gym. It's so nice to pick DS up from his half day of preschool after that.

I go out and do something by myself one day or evening every weekend. It can be a number of things, like snowboarding, hiking, dancing, visiting friends, or a rare shopping excursion (I hate shopping).

I hire a babysitter for 3 hours once every 3 months and go get my haircut and take the extra hour to meet a friend at the coffee shop for a chat. It's so nice to have an adult face-to-face discussion without being interrupted.

All these things are key to my mental and physical health, and I'm feelin pretty good about both!
