Can anyone recommend a safe soap to use for my baby? I prefer unscented, hypoallergenic gentle natural soap...

I use Dr Bronners baby mild, but only on DS diaper area--everywhere else I usually just use good old water, however sometimes I make a chamomile and/or lavender bath tea and bathe DS in that.

Babies actually don't need any soap (and it can be very drying and irritating to their delicate skin)... We just wash ours in warm water and use a soft washcloth on the "dirty" parts (behind the ears, under the neck, armpits, hands, between toes).

I only use plain water on my baby. My older DD uses Organic Olive Oil Shampoo by Heritage Products, since that was the only kind I could find in local stores that did not contain any sort of fragrance.

I like Burts Bees baby soap, but it's not tear free (because it's natural) so you don't want to use it on baby's face and you have to be careful when you wash their hair.

Chamomile bath tea

So how do I do that? Can I just put some fresh herbs right in the bath water? :

I use Dr. Bronners for babies, diluted, if he has a messy poop and we are hosing him off in the shower. For baths, we don't use anything. Dr. Bs has no smell and is all-natural.

I have a large tea ball I bought from Mt Rose Herbs that I fill with herbs then make tea in a large stockpot then I just add it to the bath. I also like to use cloth tea bags to make tea with then I use the cloth tea bag filled with the herbs as a washcloth.

I had a sample size of Burt's Bees baby shampoo. I didn't realize it was shampoo and have been using it all over his body. It doesn't seem to bother his skin, though. I originally thought I'd use just warm water to wash him, but after some really messy poops and spit-ups (that made his neck smell like vomit) I started using the soap.

The Environmental Working Group has an awesome searchable product guide that ranks personal care products (including soap, baby products, cosmetics etc.) by their chemical content. I use it all the time.

Here is the one for bar soap: http://www.ewg.org/reports/skindeep/...cat=Bar%20Soap

The whole report is available here: http://www.ewg.org/reports/skindeep
from that main page you can click on "searchable product" guide, and search for all kinds of products.

very cool.
