Hi There,

We just found out that we're pregnant!! It's been a long journey and it's still unbelievable that we're here!! I'm currently 5 weeks and have first ultrasound in a few days.

So, I play African hand drums(djembe) and have our annual women's drumming weekend coming up in a week and I'm not sure what to do. I know that drumming and vibrations can be a very powerful for healing, but I'm not sure if it's too powerful for my little embryo that's just starting to get settled in. As I mentioned, it's been a long journey and after 16 months, we finally conceived through IVF. I'm so afraid to do anything to mess things up.

Maybe I've already answered my own question, but I just thought I'd throw this out there and see what y'all think. I'm going to cross-post on other pregnancy boards....any info or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Mags

I don't drum, but my son does and from day one of my pregnancy I sit in his room and listen to him drum. I have gone to all of his concerts (loud) and I have gone to some loud rock concerts. I don't think you have anything at all to worry about.

If sex doesn't loosen up an embryo, I can't imagine that drumming would either.

And the baby has no ability to hear yet, so even sound wouldn't be an issue (and when baby can hear, the womb is so loud and cushions from outside noises that I think it'd still be fine).

I would continue drumming as usual.

I'd think once the baby can hear, the drumming might even become a comfort to him/her!

I can't imagine why drumming would not be OK. I'd also think anytime you have a serious question like this it would be a good idea to ask your OB/midwife!
