Trying to reduce the amount of plastic we use....are there any ziploc type bags that are safer than others?

And whats worse...wrapping something in saran wrap or aluminum foil?

Do you mean ecologically or healthwise?
If you arent getting rid of plastic entirely, mabye you could try re-usable plastic containers (tupperware). Glass is an even better option as long as you dont put it in the freezer.

sorry, should have been clearer...I mean health wise. We already use pyrex as our main storage with a bit of rubbermaid thrown in. But what do you do for sandwiches and other food for kids lunches etc?

How about wrapping sandwiches in wax paper with a rubberband or string around it. I think thats how they did it in the old days.
