SAHMs with daytime empty nests... tribe... ?

This was the most boring day EVER. It was gorgeous outside so I laid out for a while and read. At 2, I crawled into bed with DH (even though I wasn't tired). That's it. Thankfully, after school, DD had Scouts and we were Ecologists for a day so we walked to the park and beach, studying leaves and trees and other vegetation so that was great.

Anyway, I know there are some other SAHMs out there with kids in full-time school. I am just running out of things to do all day.

Won't you join me and keep me company, LOL?

I'm a stay at home mommy with DS in school full time.
I take baths, read, walk, listen to music, work out, nap with hubby when he is home, watch movies I don't watch when DS is home, write, scrapbook, clean, cook, volunteer once a week at school, do nothing and enjoy the time alone.

When DS went to school for the first time, I felt so empty and lonely. Now I love it. I get to have time for me, and have alot more energy when he gets home.

I am sick with a cold right now. Sore troath, yucky stuff. I am so happy that I have time to rest right now. I miss my baby boy, but when I am sick I can't function normal. LOL!
I usually love it. It's just yesterday was one of the only days I didn't volunteer at school, the house was spotless, I had no errands to run, had already been to the library so I had one book left unread and had already stopped at the thrift store to donate a ton of stuff. Plus, the sun made me so lethargic.

Anyhoo - what are you up to today? I may swing by the bank and library since it's raining (I was going to work in the yard a little and clear some weeds/rake up pine cones). Thankfully, DH has the next 3 days off so he should be up from his nap by noon. I'll make him take me to lunch.

Tonight is swimming lessons for both and baseball practice for DS. Hope it stops raining.
You know these posts are making us sahms with kids still at home go absolutely nutty with envy. You know that, right? So just go ahead and keep on describing the baths, the work-outs, the lying around and reading, the boredom (!!)

That's going to be me next year and I can't wait. But for now, you can picture me turning a lovely shade of green.

HA HA HA. Just remember, though, we put in our time too. We've been there, done that and now we're relaxing. It feels like mini-retirement.

But, if it makes you feel better, I am CRAZY-BUSY after school with swim lessons, baseball, softball, Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts.

Today I'll pick up the kids at 3:45, go straight to swim lessons. They'll both be done and dressed by 5:00. We'll get home at 5:15, eat, get re-dressed and be at baseball practice by 6. Practice will be over at 7 - we'll get home just a few minutes later but we have to unload the gear, clean off the cleats. Then it's straight to the bedtime routine. We'll have to time to read then lights out.

On days like these, my crock pot is my best friend.

count me in!

although i'm seriously thinking of going back to work part-time just 2 days a week......and only while the kids are in school. we'll see though. my friend at VB came to me last week and informed me of an opening so i'm looking into it and next week i'll be working their HUGE outlet sale 3 days (from 8-4p) so that might just make up my mind for me. lol!

although i do have my business to keep me busy as well. i don't often find myself bored.....but those days that i do are simply marvelous!

gotta run! must go pick up the kids from school now!

I got some laundry done. But I still feel yucky with the cold/flu.
Our daughter just turned 11 and we are 2 blocks from the school, so this year she has been walking herself there and back, so I don't even have to rush out of the house in the morning! Or the afternoon!

I've been taking mornings slow... having coffee and playing Zelda (or whatever) for an hour or two... but then it gets busier and I do yoga, housework, and cook (all our meals from scratch.) Every other day I go out for groceries and/or coffee with the girlfriends, or run errands. For five years I volunteered at the school but didn't this year (no need to go there every day.)

But it's going to end in September 'cause I've decided to go back to work part-time in the mornings (no more morning video games) but I'm looking forward to going back to work, it's been 9.5 years!
Nope SAHDS...doesn't make me feel any better at ALL!

Where's my green with envy smiley??!!?!

I will be there next school year and while I am sad that my last 'baby' will be going to school and not home with me, I am looking forward to the things I will be able to do and the one on one time I will get with hubby

ETA the more posts i read SAHDS the more I am dying to see your house LOL.

Seriously jealous. Since I'm still in the "you cut my sandwich wrong" stage

On our best days dd and I have peaceful relaxing days that are practically dreamy. But 4:04 rolls around and it's off to the races. I wish we has more time between after school and bed. There's so much packed in there!

This thread is kind of making me reconsider my desire to homeschool.

I've never looked forward to summer vacation then I do this yr. I am so tired of him bringing home illnesses and then I get it. A germ free (hopefully) summer. LOL!
Yesterday I hung around the house. Cleaned a bit then went to the school for my Monday reading. I should have gone grocery shopping but didn't and had to take 2 damp children with me after their swim lessons.

Today I need to make muffins (banana chocolate chip - YUM) and I may go to the fabric store to see if I can find fabric to make DS's curtains. I'm feeling a little too comfy in my footed jammies right now, though.

ETA - It's only 8:43 and the muffins have been made for over an hour. Still in my jammies though. Headed off to drop the kids off at school.

Oh, and kay4, I'm updating my Flickr when I find DD a desk, LOL. I'll be sure to post!

I sure do. They are the BEST. DD and I will eat 2 dozen in 2 days
: She had 2 this morning (w/ oj and eggs) and took 1 to school for snack. I've only had one... so far...

Oh, and they're more banana-bread-esque than cake.

Here's for 24:

2-1/2 cups and 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 cup and 2 tablespoons sugar
1-1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1-1/2 teaspoons baking soda
3/4 teaspoon salt
1-1/2 egg
3/4 cup vegetable oil (I haven't tried applesauce in this one)
3/4 cup plain yogurt (I use sour cream since I always have it on hand)
1-1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1-1/2 cups mashed ripe bananas
1 cup and 2 tablespoons semisweet chocolate chips

In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt. In another bowl, combine the egg, oil, yogurt and vanilla. Stir into dry ingredients just until moistened. Fold in bananas and chocolate chips. Fill greased or paper-lined muffin cups two-thirds full. Bake at 350 degrees F for 22-25 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool for 5 minutes before removing from pans to wire racks.

Well, this morning I've planned dinner, done the dishes, started the wash (again) and made a list for the hardware store. Yes, I've been online for about 40 minutes but I'm going to get off soon and get more work done. I also volunteer a lot of days to the kids schools and to various good causes. Yesterday, I was gone all day helping a said good cause and slid home just in time to get kids from their after school activities and make the pasta dinner.
I'm a single mostly SAHM of three kids. My oldest is fifteen and a freshman in high school and my youngest just turned six. So yes, I've put in my time! LOL!

I do work two part-time jobs. I clean our church. Takes an average of 4 - 5 hours a week, and I can do it whenever I want. I also work part-time for our township as EIT Collector. February - April I keep office hours (just four hours a week, Monday and Wednesday mornings from 9:00 - 11:00) and other than that I work on an as needed basis. This month, of course, more.

My youngest does three whole days and two half days at kindergarten.

I learned to love it. The three whole days and two halfs are the perfect compromise for us - I get all my work done in the mornings and then have two afternoons to play with her and three afternoons for errands/fun stuff.

Next year she will be full day, like the other two kids.

Like I said, I'm also a single mom, so the school day is absolutely the only break I get. I'm lucky if their dad takes them for a few hours every three or four months, so I'm all mom all the time.
