So, Grace woke up with a rash this morning, and I was google imaging trying to figure out what is was and I searched "impetigo" and there were pictures of your boys! AND it linked right to your blog.

Pretty funny as it could have been any of the billions of people posting images and I get YOURS!

I still can't figure out what it is, I'm just coating it with neosporin and seeing what happens (I mean, she just got off her first EVER 10 day antibiotic regime for an ear infection....how could she have impetigo?)

It could be a reaction to antibiotic.
It is very common to see rashes or eczema-like patches on the skin, after the round of antibiotics, since they wipe out all the healthy gut flora.

Do you use probiotics?
If not, try adding a good probiotic, there is a baby formula , kids and adults (Jarrow formula is good, health food stores have it)...
Look for Lactobacilus acidophilus and/or L. rhamnosus in the mix.

When using antiobiotics, it is in general, very good idea to use probiotics 2 hours after antibiotics.

Also, those skin rashes - try not to put too many creams on, in general, it is good it comes out of her body.

Take care!
I hope it clears up soon!

I wonder if it could be a fungal infection, especially since she just came off the antibiotics. If that's the case, probiotics will probably help.

My daughter and I had a rash around our mouths that came and went for years, and I always assumed it was some kind of bacterial infection. I tried all kinds of things on it, including a prescription topical antibiotic that a dermatologist told me would cure it. It never got better with those treatments. A few months ago, our new family doctor said she had a hunch it was yeast or some other fungal thing, and gave us a Nystatin cream. And finally, for the first time since she was 1 year old, my 7 year old daughter has clear skin. So, just a possibility.

, that's funny! My boys are famous!

We finally determined that both boys had Chicken Pox, but Ian had Impetigo in some of his spots.

Impetigo is a form of a staph infection, so she could have it after being on antibiotics, depending on what kind of antibiotics it was. But it's more likely it's a fungal infection from the abx, or maybe even a slight reaction to them.

Or it could just be a childhood rash! One of many that you'll scratch your head at and then it'll go away as quick as it came

Yeah, I used to get this funny infection at the corner of my mouth that would turn into a weepy, crusty thing. Never knew what to do about it till I worked for a Dr and she said it was a yeast infection and just to put foot fungal cream on it (but not to get it in my mouth). It cleared up great and I have had it return only once and also got rid of it quickly.

Never connected it to antibiotics, but they do cause yeast infections. Impetigo is quite contagious I believe though, so might want to get it checked out, I think they proscribe a topical antibiotic for it?

I thought I posted this already? Lost in the abyss of posts, I guess!

Both my girls drink Kefir every day, so they get a healthy dose of probiotics.....

It's on her forearm, it's pretty small, like pimples in a space of a silver dollar? (not circular though) and she said it itched, so I put neosporin on it and she said that made it better. I just kept coating it all day with that - and it might be looking better as of bedtime last night....I haven't checked this morning though.

Grace has bad skin - poor kid always has some kind of 'something' happening! Especially in the cold months. (but luckily for her, it's a nice olive tone as opposed to her sister and I who look as irish as they come
- She's Daddy's little Italian girl!) She even scars from like EVERYTHING! every little scratch results in a scar. I think I'll have to buy stock in mederma for kids

Just checked her and I can still see it, but the bumps aren't red anymore, much less inflamed! Oh good - guess the neosporin is working....probably was a little impetigo.
