I, said O’Connor, am against judicial reforms driven by nakedly partisan reasoning. Pointing to the experiences of developing countries and former communist countries where interference with an independent judiciary has allowed dictatorship to flourish, O’Connor said we must be ever-vigilant against those who would strongarm the judiciary into adopting their preferred policies. It takes a lot of degeneration before a country falls into dictatorship, she said, but we should avoid these ends by avoiding these beginnings.</td>

Which vote? (I keep coming back to this thread hoping someone will talk about it so I don't have to ask and look like an idiot. LOL) Help a clueless woman out here!

Her next chapter will be the hardest yet of her life, I don't even her that. However, I hpoe she does remain in some sort of public view, her's is a voice that shouldn't be lost.

I do think it's good that she's speaking up, even though I wish she had done so when she still had some sway. It's a reminder that people can see what's happening , that people can look beyond party loyalties.

Yeah, that.<br><br><br><br>
I missed this thread the first time around, but there was interesting re-coverage of this this morning on the radio (it had gotten such interesting play despite being underreported, so the host decided to revisit it) on this morning's Brian Lehrer show, <a href="http://www.wnyc.org/shows/bl/episodes/2006/03/31" target="_blank">"O'Connor's Eisenhower Moment</a>.<br><br><br>
(always game to give Brian's show a plug ... and you can listen online <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/smile.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="smile">)
