Anyone else on this? My OB put me on it for PPD and I didn't know until I got home and looked it up that it's Prozac.

I'm also bf'ing and she says it ok, and I've already been on Kelllymom.com to read up on it.

Is anyone else on this? Is it really as scary as I've heard and read about? It seems a lot more bf'ing mamas are on Zoloft.

Also, I'm alone this weekend should I wait until my DH gets back before I start taking it? I have no idea how I'll react to it and I'm the only one here with my baby.

Thanks

I've been on Prozac now for about five weeks. My Dr prescribed it because he said it was the most extensively researched SSRI and proven the safest for breastfeeding. I started on 20 mgs, and just yesterday got a new prescription for 40 mgs. He told me to take half of a pill for the first four days so that my body would get used to it, then start taking the full dose to minimize side effects. The first few days I took it, I felt mildly "buzzed"- like I was going full speed all day long. (After feeling so lethargic, it was actually a welcome change.) That faded quickly, and the only other side effect is that I always seem to have a dry mouth. (Oh, and the lack of sexual arousal too.
: ) I've heard of more people being on Zoloft too, but my Dr seems pretty confident about this. I've only been feeling about 20% better or so, but he said it could take awhile, and the fact that i am feeling better is signs that the drug is working. Good luck!

Stacy - thanks for replying! I feel a lot better about it now.

She's starting me out on 20mg too, so we'll see how it goes. She did tell me it would take 4-6 weeks before I may notice a difference. I feel like I'm dragging all of the time and have insomnia - she said this may make it worse for awhile. I guess it may just depend on the person huh? I was kind of worried about the sexual side effects too, but my lack of desire can't get much worse at this point anyway.

Hi! My DS is almost exactly the same age as yours.
We are also currently nursing and I am taking Prozac 20 mg. I started on it before I got pregnant and have taken it the whole time I have been pregnant and nursing (unless I am a dork and forget sometimes
: ). I have noticed no side effects at all in my DS. In fact, for me, I believe that being able to function better as a mom and wife to my DH is worth any small risk of passing it through my milk. As far as sexual side effects go, I find that mostly I am just too tired from caring for DS all day and BF makes it dry "down there" too, so I don't think it is just the Prozac. I hope it works for you too!

I agree!

It's made a huge difference already! I don't seem to be in the 'fog' that I was in before, I enjoy social situations a lot more, and I'm sleeping 100x better than I have in a long time!
Plus, don't seem to be as anxious as I was, and my temper has dramatically subsided.

Isn't this a great age for our babes??!?! They are so much fun and learning so much.
