Hi AP moms! I currently live in Milwaukee, WI but we are thinking about moving down here. I am sad to think about leaving my AP mom groups up north and I would like to know what is going on down here. Are there many AP minded moms down here? Are there some good schools, etc? I have one ds...3 months old. Thanks for any information.

Hi Beth. Thanks for the reply. There is a page that tells what all the abbreviations are. AP=attachment parenting, ds=dear son, dd=dear daughter, dh=dear husband, etc. I had my son at home in September and I am wondering if there are some mothering groups down there that are like minded. I practice attachment parenting....co-sleeping, wearing baby in a sling, breastfeeding, etc. If you know of anything please let me know.
Thanks

thank you for the explanations, ill have to find that page. i originally bought some diapers from a company i found in mothering called in our forrest. turns out the owners live in sarasota, it was the owner that mentioned that mothering has this forum. as my signature says, im an acupuncturist, thats why i asked, hoping, i guess to meet another acupuncturist. not that there arent any here, we have a school of chinese medicine here so there are actually quite a few. on my own, just by circumstance, ive met a few natural families to one degree or another. sarasota is an area of the arts and can be very diverse, but i can depend where in sarasota you are and who you talk to. i dont denigh the fact that my son is home born, but i dont necessarily mention it to some very conservative patients. i talked with a midwife in sarasota last year, shes expecting her first this january, human being, heidi. she has group get togethers, but i dont know if they are exclusive to the women that are expecting and under her care, but there are at least a number of women having home birth in the area.
ive just looked this over and realize i havent given you one solid peice of help, im just rambling on, perhaps i need to get more than 3 hours sleep one night this year? if you do decide to move here, please let me know, ive been interested in starting a group and a local organization to provide information and legal protection of our rights as parents, have you happened to read my story about our run in with social services? and i dont know how you feel about home school and non vacination but both are legal and available but always red tape, i would want to put all info together in one place.
ill mention you to my friend that owns the diaper company, she has been on the scene longer than myself, blessings.

Thanks for the info. We do not vaccinate either. What are the laws in Florida? I would be interested in home schooling too. I've heard that FL public schools are pretty bad.
I would love to talk with your friend that sells diapers too.

Thanks.

Hey Kati!

Welcome lorikuschinski (& I STIK M -- are you Beth?). There are quite a few of us here who are APing. Florida has a religious exemption for vaxing, no problem there. There is also a rather large homeschooling community in Sarasota/Manatee counties. Jaimee (who runs inourforrest.com) is also co-host to a natural family coop that meets once a month. LLL has a lot of the same ladies.

http://www.inourforrest.com/store/in...php?info_id=10 This is the link re: the coop.

Oops, gotta run, baby is upset. Hope to meet you!

Hi there,
We just pulled our daughter (8yrs) out of Bay Haven Elem. the week before vacation started. So much FCAT testing prep, not enough music/art/foreign languages. Plus very high pressure on little kids and very little respect for the children. Lots of yelling, getting mad etc. if little things weren't perfect or she forgot something. 8 year olds can be very wise and also absent minded but that's not really okay these days. We are sooooo excited about homeschooling/unschooling. I'm joining a couple of homeschool groups so that I can get discounts for books etc. and to lobby for homeschool legal rights. Call the Sarasota Dept of Education. They will send you a packet. I got mine the next day. And the woman I spoke to was very kind. The red tape is really not very bad. Mostly filling out one form (very short and simple), keeping track of work covered with your child, saving a representative sample of child's work and yearly evaluation-not necessarily standardized. Anyway, I would definitely get the packet. Taking the kids out of school is no big deal.

Good Luck!!
Hi mamas,
I have a friend who lives in Sarasota. She is from Czech Republic (like myself) and her name in Pavlina (just like mine ). She has a DD, I think 7 months old, born at home. Her name is Piccassa. Yeh, she and her HD are artists.

Last time I talked to her she mentioned she'd like to get to know some AP mamas in the area. She does not know anyone like that there. The thing is - they do not have a computer at home so no internet access for her If you do manage to organize some meetings, can you please post it here so I can tell her?

Beth - could you please post a link to that clothdiaper store in Sarasota? Or at least a phone number?
Thank you!

it's not a store, its a web store- inourforrest.com, but the owner lives in sarasota, and you can sometimes pick up your orders.

I have a few questions for you. I dream of becoming an acupuncturist. What are the requirments to get into school in Florida. I also see you are a massage therapist. Which is what I am planning on starting school as soon as this babe comes. Did you just have the massage cert. to get into school?. I have relatives in Tampa and grew up there when I was young. Aunt and Uncle had a boat at Marina Jacks. I would love to soak up the sun, while going to school. Thanks

it is best to start, in my opinion, with massage school. massage is a great path that takes you with it. you'll meet wonderful people, explore yourself. i believe you can goto massage school with just highschool equviency. i would recommend a seperate massage school, not affiliated with a tech school, independent. if you can get to sarasota, the sarasota school of massage therapy is where dh and i went. and i hear it is still great. if you go, please say hi to joe lubow, the owner. years ago, during our schooling, he was one of our teachers. he complained of students dating each other, then remember that we were together, got embarrased. he later married and has a family w/ a former student.he,he... while in school, you'll be exposed to allied modalities, acupuncture is one of many, many great medicines.
i personally found massage school to be quite easy acedemically. acupuncture schooling was much tougher, its afour year program, plus internship and boards. some schools only require an asociates degree, others a full bachlors.massage is cheap, i believe less than 6,000? acupuncture is often like college costs. and you will very well make the same amount as a LMT as an acupuncturist. im not trying to burst your bubble, i love being an acupuncturist, LOVE IT! but no need to dream of being an acupuncturist, go start something you love, and just be... if you are going to dream, lucid dream and fly..... blessings, hope i was heplful, so hard to recomend and yet stay out of the way...

i stik m -- do you know how to subscribe to threads? when you reply to a post you are usually automatically subscribed, then you are notified everytime someone posts to the thread. look in your personal settings if this isn't the case. or you can subscribe to an entire forum...
