I definitely recommend the movie, especially if to share with friends who are on the fence about or unaware of homebirth. It was well put together, educational, and very emotional-- showed several beautiful births.

We had some technical difficulites at the showing (in San Francisco) which turned out to be kind of funny. The movie kept skipping/sticking in places. They showed Ricki Lake in the tub, crowning, and then the movie stopped and went back a scene. She got all the way up to crowning again then it went back. This happened several times, with her getting stuck there for longer and longer periods until she (and the movie) finally pushed through it and the baby was born. Everyone watching clapped and cheered for her. It was pretty funny.

On the way home, I asked DH if he learned anything from the movie. He said no, that with all my talking and showing him articles, he already knew everything they covered. Very cool!

It was a great experience. Definitely worth finding a preview showing or getting your hands on it when it comes out!

I really enjoyed the movie, although I wished they had given more explanation for why things went the way they did in the end (won't give more details for fear of spoiling it for others ). I think it was justified, but would have liked more info.

Anyway, that is too funny about the skipping and having to crown over and over part .

Great movie !

Just popping in from the June DDC to reminisce for a second. My mom used to teach childbirth education classes in our basement (she's a CNM) when I was a kid. One of her favorite - and disturbing - things to do when she was basically done with the class was to show the movie (this is reel movies - before the days of VHS) of the birth BACKWARDS. It was hilarious - you'd see the doctor take the baby off mom's chest and stuff it back into mom! Wow.

I agree. The hints they gave weren't enough of an explanation. I think I may have to go look it up, see if I can find anything more.

I want to see it so bad! Unfortunately I live in ND where there are no showings.
