This column is my response to the recent Newsweek article on autism, including a growing number of letters taking issue with it :
http://www.vaccinationnews.com/Scand.../Scandal65.htm

Please consider submitting your own response letters to Newsweek (and to me at [email protected]).

All the best,
...for your amazing, articulate response to the Newsweek article. I am continually outraged by the coverage of autism by the mass-mediocrity of our popular press.

My particular peeve is our "News & Observer" here in N.C. that simply ignores the issue almost completely, except when there's some ridiculous new theory based on a study involving a handful of participants (the most recent eludes my memory, presently).

They never comment on something like this:

http://www.childscreen.org/geier.pdf

Orwellian fer sure,

Thanks, Ray.

You might be interested in a speech I first made a few years ago, and my testimony to the IOM.

Here are the links:
http://www.vaccinationnews.com/daily...DemoSpeech.htm
http://www.vaccinationnews.com/autho...omtest1993.htm

Maybe even a paper I wrote around 1991 (first time around 1989), in defense of philosophical exemptions to vaccinations:
http://www.vaccinationnews.com/daily...easpeopdis.htm

I think most of what I wrote 10+ years ago has stood the test of time - and is a discouraging reminder of how little has changed.

And I'd love getting your feedback on some of my other Scandals columns, when and if you get a chance.

As for your pet peeve, I share it. That's why we all need to respond, particularly on a local level, to our media, commenting on what they have done (including thanking them when they have been courageous and right), and encouraging them to listen to all sides of the argument.

All the best,
