Ok around 5 weeks I was sooo sick with a terrible, uncontrollable cough. I was coughing so badly that I was gagging. Normally I don't take over the counter meds for just about anything anytime, even when I'm not pg! I was so miserable that I thought, fine, I'll look up something considered safe for pregnancy and go ahead and take it. The information I looked up didn't bother to mention that it is not safe during the first trimester! Now I am terrified. I just want to know that my baby is ok. I can't find any info on the combination of guafenesin and dextromethorphan. Anybody know anything? Take it yourself?

My dr has been pushing this on me my entire pregnancy so I assume its not that bad. I would relax if I were you - I took vicodin and went to the hot springs (over 104 degrees - twice!) before I found out I was pregnant and I am getting ready to have this baby. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/hug.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="hug"> I know its scary but I think it will be ok.

I don't have specific advice but I think you should be fine and the baby too.

I'm glad to see this question. I get really bad upper respiratory infections a couple times a year with the coughing so bad I gag or it brings on asthmatic bronchitis. Mucinex DM is one of the reliable standbys. Though I would still ask my MW and take as little as possible. Hm. I should probably find out about the inhaler before I get sick again.

Is the inhaler Albuterol? If so, it's fine. It's technically a class C drug, I think, but not being able to breathe is way more scary than the Albuterol. My MW specifically told me to use it if I need it.
