So I am knitting my best friend, a guy, a scarf,. It is knit in the round, super long and in stockinette. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/img/vbsmilies/smilies/dizzy.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Dizzy">: I just thought it would be interesting to see how long it takes and how much yarn.<br><br>
I have until the 21 to finish it. And I am thinking it is going to end up being between 10 and 12 feet. But that may change as I get more into it.<br><br>
I started this afternoon and knit for about 3 hours all together. and got about 14 inches done.<img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/lol.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="lol">

In stockinette too? Is it really curled in on the edges or did you do a garter edging? If you are up for it you might consider crocheting around the edges to keep it from rolling in. Crochet goes pretty fast so you should be able to get that done in a day if you are just SC all around.

I am basically making a giant tube. Dh thinks its funny. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/img/vbsmilies/smilies/dizzy.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Dizzy">: I have no idea how to crochet, but its actually going rather fast and I don't have a lot of other holiday knitting to do, so I really don't mind it. Plus, it is one of those project where you don't have to be focused on it really, so it is going everywhere with me. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/lol.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="lol">

So at the end of ball one, I have 28 inches <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/img/vbsmilies/smilies/dizzy.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Dizzy">: I am taking the darn things with me everywhere and I think as it grows I am going to wrap it around my neck as I knit it <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/lol.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="lol"> So, I am going to have to go back for more yarn. I only have one more. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/lol.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="lol">

Holy [email protected]!<br><br>
Is he actually gonna wear a 10 foot+ scarf?<img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/img/vbsmilies/smilies/cold.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Cold">:<br><br>
He's gonna be all wrapped up in the thing and still have long tails on each side.<br>
He could probably wrap it around himself as a coat and be done with it. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/lol.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="lol"><br><br>
How's the progress going?

That's pretty long!<br><br>
I'm making a scarf for my mom, but I'm doing it lengthwise, so I have no clue how long it really is - it's all scrunched up on my circs! I'm so sick of this scarf, though - the yarn is no fun, the pattern is sorta boring... ugh... what was I thinking!<br><br>
Anyways... GL with your 10' tube! lol

Wow, I would impale myself on my knitting needles if I had to knit something that long in stockinette (or really, in any pattern, for that matter).<br><br>
Good luck! and what I want to know is, what's <i>he</i> giving <i>you</i>? <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/lol.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="lol">

I am working on a blanket for my MIL (who i adore <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/heartbeat.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="heartbeat">) for Christmas. I got ten balls of the Suri Alpaca from Knitpicks. I am a little over 6 and a half balls into it. Must. Keep. Knitting....

He's a Doctor Who fan, right? You can do it. It's going to be hell on earth (I did a slytherin scarf in the round for a craft swap, 1000+ rows of stockingette, and it nearly killed me) but you can do this.

Color me stupid but I' having a hard time figuring out this whole "scarf in the round" concept. Anyone got a link? <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/lol.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="lol">

Sure, I'll post pictures and yes, I am sure he is a doctor who fan <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/lol.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="lol"><br><br>
I don't know what he's getting me. i didn't ask for anything. I felt like I should do something special for him though because he has been such a great friend to me the past year, one of the roughest I have had. I talk to him via phone or text daily, even if it is just bs-ing.<img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/lol.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="lol"> I don't have a lot of real close friends and I thought this would be my "grand" gesture of thanks. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/lol.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="lol"><br><br>
I am such a dork...

Here's an <a href="http://www.knitting-and.com/knitting/patterns/scarves/wizard-scarf-1.htm" target="_blank">HP scarf</a> that's knit in the round. You make a tube, then flatten it out and put fringe to close the tube.

Ahhh ok...I pictured it much different. What's the point/advantage of doing it that way?
