Hi
Our local paper has a scathing editorial about breastfeeding in public... It made my blood boil. I am a discreete nurser.. I make sure I try to cover up and meet my children's needs.. But I refuse to take it to the bathroom..

If you are interested in voicing your thoughts to the author..

So I guess that bottlefeeding shouldn't be done in public either? I mean, since bottlefeeding is also part of a bonding experience - especially for dads, right? - then perhaps babies shouldn't eat in public EVER? What a moron!

Here is what I wrote back:

This letter is in refrence to your article about nursing in public. I am OUTRAGED that you woruld print such trash. I am a nursing mother and nurse my son wherever, whenever he needs to be fed. I am just at a loss for words, except to please invite you to eat your lunch by yourself in the downstairs bathroom stall, so the rest of us will not have to be disturbed by YOUR disgusting eating habits.

: Here's my letter, man, wouldn't I love to follow that woman around with my toddler attached to my breast - we could do that.....

"The letter in your paper written by Jonna Spilbor was appalling. To deny a child the right to eat because a grown woman has a problem differentiating between toplessness and a mother nourishing her child is idiotic at best. Have you any idea how many new mother's may have made a decision to formula feed their babies because they read this article & were made to feel embarrassed to breastfeed their babies in any public place. Breast milk is the single best food for an infant & a mother should never feel ashamed to give her baby the best.
People like Ms. Spilbor shouldn't have a job in a public paper, period."

I've noticed a loop hole in her way of thinking... so we shouldn't be subjected to eating children until they can chew.... which means she conceptually should have no problem with nursing toddlers then

Any Pougkeepies Mammas wanna stage a toddler nurse-in???? :LOL

If babies should eat in private until they are chewing, then doesn't that mean babies shouldn't be bottle-fed in public either.

I don't get this

Forcing me into becoming an audience to a public showing for which I didn't buy tickets, is an invasion of my rights - is it not?
Who is forcing? YOu don't have to look. Read something, look away, move if you need to. For gosh sakes. I don't stand up and say, wether you like it or not-you will watch me nurse. What a dumb-sucker (PC)

Here's mine:

"Whiney silliness like what Jonna Spilbor has written makes the US a laughingstock among parents and medical experts around the world where breastfeeding is normal and healthy and goes by largely unnoticed. Sometimes up here it's hard to believe people like you are for real. Alas, you're a product of your twisted culture, so you'll likely never evolve enough to educate yourself on the benefits to society of breastfeeding and to applaud those who who have the courage to do it DESPITE the sick small-mindedness around them."

Here's the letter that I wrote:

"This letter is in regards to the article on nursing in public written by Jonna Spilbor. As a proud nursing mother of a one year-old, I am utterly appalled by her words. Breast milk is the single best food for a baby, and babies eat frequently. Does she mean to suggest that breastfeeding mothers shouldn't leave the house with their children until they are weaned? The American Academy of Pediatrics suggests nursing your child for at least one year, and the World Health Organization recommends nursing for two years or more. Is she really suggesting that her "embarrassment" about seeing a mother lovingly nourishing her baby in public is more important than the baby getting to eat? How dare she be so self-absorbed. Her words infuriate me, and I am shocked that your paper would print such an ignorant article."
