I had mild sciatica with my first pregnancy, it only hit me a few times. With my second it was all in my butt and more of an annoyance than anything. This time with number 3 it seems like I'm in pain more than I'm not. I dropped my 2 year old one night when she was sleeping because my leg went out from under me. I can't pick up toys at night because the pain is so bad. Is anyone else experiencing this? I'm only 18 weeks, I'm a little scared of what the next few months have in store for me!

Boy- I hope I don't have it this time. I did w/ #3 as well. I fell a couple times-- once with my 14 mo old- scared him really bad. I was always worried about my leg giving out at weird times.
Anyway, I hope I don't have it this time around...

Have you ever seen a chiropractor for it? It seems like I had friends that did and they said it helped. I might do that if it starts up again.

Not in your DDC, but I wanted to jump in and say that I had what I thought was sciatica for my first two pregnancies. I decided to see a chiropractor this time to stay comfortable. When I described it to him, he said that sciatica typically runs down the leg, too. Pain in the butt only was more likely the sacral iliac(sp?) joint was rubbing on the pelvis. After two weeks of regular chiro care, it went away and stayed away throughout the pregnancy.

I had it bad before I got pregnant with my son. Something about the pregnancy made it go away!! I have had maybe 2 flare ups since he was born, until this pregnancy. Last week I was *miserable* with the sciatica pain. I'm hoping it was just a one time deal....I can't imagine the discomfort of pregnancy AND sciatica issues.

Oh you POOR Mama. I dealt with this through my last two pregnancies. The pain was so intense I remember many nights in tears.

I'm not PG but I was just passing through and saw your post.

My Doctor (general practioner who is a sports medicine specialist, not my OB) actually did chiropractic adjustments on me for a while. I also switched to Earth Shoes, which have a reverse incline for your feet and they actually really helped my back pain out. No more sandals! He (my Doctor) did say that if you can keep your back aligned at the end of your pregnancy and post-partum then a lot of times it will heal up and not bother you any more when everything is in the healing stage. I was leery but it turned out to be true.

Make sure you do some yoga and stretches to keep things loose. And have better positions for delivering your baby than flat on your back.

I have sciatica and SI pain. My OB recommended core strengthening exercises. I just got my core ball workout book today and my hubby is willing to make sure I do the poses correctly (I'm hypermobile, he's very attentive/observant).

I also do recumbent cycling and warm water exercises at the gym/pool. Those help quite a bit.

I have had this problem in the last two pregnancies and it is happening again. The pain is gripping and happens at the strangest times. I haven't had this problem picking up my baby and hope I don't. Like you, I am concerned about the next few months!

I've had it on and off this time. When it is bad, I lay on my back and flip my egs over my head and have DH put pressure on the back of my thighs. I used to just flip my legs over, but once I had DH push on me there and it helped so much that he always has to do it now. It makes the pain less, but not completly gone. It then goes away on its own. If you try it, experiment with different ways, because the position I get in is more complecated than what I have descrbed, but I just can' ecplain it. I can't imagine trying this at 7 mo pg though. I guess I'll just have to try something else when the ime comes - can't afford a chiro

I went to a chiro yesterday. I've been seeing chiro's on and off for years due to scoliosis and other back issues. I've never gone while pg. I told her and showed her where the pain was, she worked some magic and it's gone! I've never had anything that went away in just one session! I am definately sticking with this all the way through the preg. and birth!
