i just read an article called "bed sharing and soft mattresses increase risk for sids"...in central CA parent magazine, if you're in the central valley, calif.

my first thought was..."oh here we go again..." then i read it.

this cites a new study that was published in may 2003 issue of pediatrics. it was found that sids babies were 2.4 times more likely to have been put to sleep on their stomachs, 5.4 times more likely to have shared a bed with other children...ok, fine, we knew about that...but get this...the next sentence says "SHARING A BED WITH PARENTS DID NOT PROVE TO BE AN IMPORTANT RISK."

woohoo! i just about fell out of my seat when i read that!

the last sentence says:

parents "should receive instruction that emphasizes supine sleeping, firm bedding, not using pillows and not sharing a bed with other children or sleeping with another person on a sofa," the authors wrote.

that's all the stuff the cosleeping advocates have been saying for years!!!!

well, i thought it was pretty dang exciting to read that. and i couldn't agree more with them! finally we can be in agreement! lol!
