Ok about 2 days or so ago I was reading a thread about babies being diagnosed colic but it was possibly not, it was something else? Of course without the search feature it makes it hard to find the thread and I honestly don't remember which thread it was. Could someone possibly link me to the thread or tell me what the screaming/crying due to vax's in infants is called? OY this poor mommy memory of mine is a lousy one :

I know A friend of mine is going thru a a really hard time with her baby. The docs have said its acid reflux but nothing is working and he is screaming 6-12 hours a day. I just can't imagine how he is feeling and how stressed out my friend must be.

My dd screamed like that before she recieved any vaxes (she had a few starting at 6 mo until we stopped). It was acid reflux and it was awful. There are lots of reasons why reflux treatments may not work; your friend should check out www.infantreflux.org for good info on reflux--the boards there were really helpful to us.

Is the baby breastfed or formula fed? The main cause of acid reflux in infants is an intolerance to cow's milk protein. After that, it's soy protein. If she's breastfeeding, she needs to stop eating anything with dairy or soy for a minimum of 3 weeks, before she can tell if it's related. It takes that long to get them out of your breastmilk. Common names of dairy ingredients you might see on a list are natural flavoring (you'd have to call the manufacturer to find out if it contains dairy or soy), sodium caseinate, whey, casein and lactose. If she's formula feeding, the baby needs to be switched to an elemental formula. These include Nutramigen, Pregestimil and Alimentum. Even that doesn't work for some babies with severe intolerance. In that case, she'd have to try Neocate, which is amino acid based.

Jenniebug: I have a crying study (funded my Merck & 5 of the 9 authors are employed by Merck; the others get funding from Merck) which was emailed to me, but it's in a pdf I can't post. I'm going to see if I can Google it.

************
Post-licensure comparative study of unusual high-pitched crying and prolonged crying following COMVAX and placebo versus PedvaxHIB and RECOMBIVAX HB in healthy infants

Karen M. Kaplan, Steven A. Rusche, Hassan D. Lakkis, Gerald Bottenfield, Fernando A. Guerra, Juan Guerrero, Harry Keyserling, Elise Felicione, Teresa M. Hesley

OBJECTIVES: To compare the frequencies of unusual, high-pitched crying between recipients of COMVAX plus placebo and recipients of PedvaxHIB plus RECOMBIVAX HB following the second vaccine doses (primary) and to summarize the frequency of unusual, high-pitched crying and prolonged crying after each vaccination visit.

CONCLUSION: This study found no statistically significant differences in rates of unusual, high-pitched crying and prolonged crying in infants vaccinated with COMVAX plus placebo compared with infants vaccinated with its monovalent components, PedvaxHIB and RECOMBIVAX HB.

***********

Of course they found "no statistically significant differences." I would have been able to tell you that without wasting time and money conducting this "study." Is it any wonder why researchers and pharma agree with the unethical use of true placebo groups ... it keeps researchers employed and pharma maintains it's hero status . . .

. . . and it keeps prolonged and/or high-pitched crying, among other adverse reactions, off the contraindication list.

She is breastfeeding and last I heard was on an elimination diet altho I would be willing to bet she isn't fully eliminating since dairy is in everything (says the mom who had to go both dairy and soy free for my youngest dd) But I will ask her exactly what she might be doing or not doing.

LI: I must admit I dont understand the studies very well other than to see that the crying happens regardless of which HB vax is given, which of course makes me roll my eyes. I know the study wouldn't make too much sense to my friend either. I really wish these studies were written in simpler english for us blondes

New here! What a great SIG

anyway, Sherry Tenpenny thinks that the screaming syndrome could actually be encephalitis due to a vaccine.
