Hi ladies! I'm prego in SE GA....don't like our options here at our local hospital, so I'm probably driving up to Rincon to deliver at the Birth Center there. Anyone have experience with that place?? And what about the drive? Anyone had to drive over an hour to get to their birth center??? Hopefully no roadside delivery for me!!!

I'm delivering there too and I live in Cordele. I'm going to savannah a few weeks before my due date, but I don't think an hour is too long. (it would have been 3 for me). So far, I really like the midwives there. I delivered my first at a birth center in canada, and just couldn't face a hospital birth! Maaybe we'll be at prenatals appts at the same time. I think it's worth the drive.

Thanks ladies. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one risking a long drive :) And I'm also glad to hear good things fromsomeone who's already going to that Birth Center. I go up this weekend for a tour and to get the paperwork for my transfer of care. I'm really excited!!!

its one of the options i'm considering for next time. we'll be ttc in about a year. i know a girl who deliviered there but i haven't talked to her since the birth. if i go with it it'll be a 2 hr drive for me. with my most recent birth we had a 1 hour drive. it was okay but i sure wish i had a midwife option locally. i used a cnm at the medical center in macon but am looking into homebirth midwives as well as the birth center. good luck.

Me! Me! I had my son there March 2005 when we lived in Savannah! I LOVED IT! (We moved there when I was 36 weeks preggo... so I didn't get to do the "centering classes" but the care I received was perfect!)

Actually... we are considering using them again, tho now we live in South Atlanta... it will be a 3 hour drive for us too... but we think we might make it work... we are TTC now.

Sherry was my delivering MW and I LOVE HER!!! Blair was a student MW at the time who was also helping... Jill was in the office that day and she came in during the last minutes (I think, now I can't recall how long she was around) of pushing (I pushed for 1 hour 45 minutes).

Anyhow... Yes! LOVE the BC in Rincon!! I have had several friends deliver there and I've never heard a bad thing about it... Sherry, Jill and Nancy... they are all great!

Thanks again everyone!! I actually toured the Center today and it IS great! Met with Sherry, and she seems sooooo sweet and supportive. I signed my paperwork to transfer my care, so it's a done deal. I'm really at peace with this decision. Yea, the distance sucks.....but like Sherry said...by the time you deal with the hospital admittance and crap, you're easily spending an hour before you're seen anyway. Might as well spend that hour driving to the Birth Center instead!! :)

I'm sure you'll be happy with the care you will receive! Oh, and Margaret doesn't deliver (at least not in 2005) anymore, but she was AWESOME too!! You might have appointments with her as well as the other three delivering MWs.

I am in Statesboro, not too far from the Birth Center.

I have actually had three friends now deliver there and LOVED it. Loaclly, it's about the best you can do, although they do have some really strict restrictions on transfers and such, but even then you still fare much better than hoping into Memorial or Candler. But 2 of my friends made it to the center from Wilimgton Island in a little under 45 minutes, so it wasn't that bad, but I would certainly plan diffrent routes for diffrent times!

PLUS, if it's still there, get some sweet tea from the Chineese buffet across the street! It's super awesome!

Hehehe...

Is Woodbine still a speedtrap? Every single ticket I have ever gotten in my life is from Woodbine...So I haven't been that ways in about 5 years...Well, that and my grammy moved out of Florida...
