Hello all,

First time to jump in here- long time MDC lurker

I am due with my first in August and am looking for a pediatrician or family practitioner in Houston who won't rake me over the coals about not vaccinating. At this point I am not planning on vaccinating at all but would still like a Dr. of some sorts for records and CYA purposes. Anyone have any great (or even mediocre...) recommendations in the Houston area?

thanks!

Sorry! I am way too far from Huston. But maybe a suggestion - go to a family practitioner, they are usually not so keen on vaxxing.

Best of luck to you. BTW, you won't circ will ya? Hope not.

And, to the board. Stick around!

Thanks for the response- was beginning to feel invisible

Definitely will consider family practitioners. Looking for a list of possibly workable peds or family practitioners. In a lot of ways would prefer if I can find a good family practice doc and kill all the birds with one stone so to speak. Never fear! Definitely not circing. But that's the second round of questions. First I have to find someone who will take us without vaxing.

thanks again for the response!

Anyone out there in Houston?

Thanks. I'd seen them back when they were new (I usually read new posts, not by forums) I went ahead and posted on one- maybe I'll get some nibbles.

Not in Houston myself, but I just wanted to say that IME family practice docs may be less likely to pressure you on vaxes, but they also tend to be less knowledgable when it comes to pediatric care. So just be aware of that.

Dr. Krenie Stowe in Tomball is fantastic. She has dedicated her practice to poverty medicine, and about 95% of her patients are Medicaid, but she has a small but dedicated faction of AP/NFL types who drive from all over the Houston area to see her. She nursed her own son until age 6, homeschools him (at her office), etc., so she is very cool with AP.

She encourages vaxing for the majority of her patients because of their living conditions, nutrition, etc., but she does not have a problem at all with a child who is breastfed, cared for in his/her home, etc. not being vaxed. She also doesn't push WBVs -- she told me I will know if I need to bring my daughter in (we saw her once to meet her and went in once for an ear check; that's it). She spends at least 15 minutes with every patient, which is really nice.

There is also a Dr. Kalia in Clear Lake who I have heard is supportive, and there is a homeopath who is also an MD, Dr. Karl Robinson (in the event that you want an MD for insurance purposes or whatever), on Westheimer who is fine with it also.

Thanks! I keep hearing good things about Dr. Stowe- if she just wasn't quite so far. I may end up using her despite the distance though.

I am on the Houston API group- great suggestion

Thanks!
