Hi all, my DD is getting close to 6 months old, and I think both of us are feeling ready to be more active during the day (we have been in a kind of hibernation since she was born, which has been good). We have been trying to make it each week to First Weeks/Next Months at CBFC, but she will soon be too old for the weekly group. Does anyone have any classes/activities in Seattle that were enjoyed by wee ones, or provided some support for new mamas?

Also, I am toying with the idea of starting a playgroup at my house since we have the space. If anyone with the wee one (4-9 months old or around there -- we are not yet babyproofed enough for toddlers!) is interested in coming to a playgroup in NE Seattle (Sand Point N of Matthews Beach), lemme know that too.

My little DD is the same age, but I also have a toddler. Not sure when I can have free time without her, but I would love to have friends with babes my little DD's age! It is super hard to get together with other mamas of babes when you have two

We're looking for baby friends! My DD is also almost the same age - Shayla was born on Sep 10th. We've thought about trying to start something down here in the south end, but our house is pretty tiny.

One cool thing I heard of is a dance/movement class called Nurturing Baby (for 2 months old to pre-walking) at the Creative Dance Center in the Northgate area. (www.creativedance.org) I'm not sure exactly what it entails, but it came highly recommended by another mama, so we're signed up for a 6-week course that starts in 2 weeks.

Anyway, let me know if you do a play group. I work several days a week but have a somewhat flexible schedule, and really want to get together with other AP folks.

Mamamilkers - you live in Ballard, right?

Yep, I do live in Ballard!

I just remembered yoga at SHC that you can bring your DC with you. They are the postnatal w/ infant. Here's the schedule. I've never been able to go, but I want to! I did prenatal yoga there and LOVED it!

bookworm -- I'm signed up for the nurturing baby class at creative dance too! Are you taking the Tuesday class? I'm glad that you got a good rec from another mama -- I just found it in one of those free seattle parenting mags and thought it sounded like fun. Maybe we will see you there!

I was totally going to ask this here:)

My daughter turned 5 months last weekend and I'm DYING for other moms with babies to visit with.

I've been taking daily walks with baby, if anyone would like to join us. We're flexible, but I've been heading out around 11am, after baby wakes up from a nap.

I'dalso be up for yoga classes or anything, really. If need be, we could host a smaller end playgroup at our place in Madison Valley (on Madison), provided its not too many people!

Despite living so close, I actually haven't been to the arboretum yet- pick a day, any day!

Also near me... There is a coffeeshop that is kid friendly- they have a wodden kitchen, books, train table... and probably other stuff. It makes a good meeting place for people with toddlers because the mamas can sit (and hold babies) while the toddlers play nearby.

Its called My coffeehouse and its at 28th and E Madison. Maybe that would work for everyone?

they both sound good to me!

erinbird, the arboretum is most amazing in the spring, when the azaleas and rhodies bloom, so let's definitely set something up. I have to work extra days next week, but maybe the week after? We finally got the Ergo carrier, and what a relief! It's so much easier and more comfortable to walk with her than the other carriers we were using.

I just realized in an earlier post I said my DD was born on Sep 10th. Woops, it was Sep 7th. Maybe this sleep deprivation thing isn't working out for me as well as I thought it was.

bookworm -- we are in the same dance class! I will see you there.

I would be up for a my coffehouse date too, I have been meaning to check it out. Madison Valley seems like the place to have kids and babies these days. We looked at a house there before we bought this one, too bad it wasn't the one for us.

I'm due within the next month or so and it doesn't seem like there will be anyone my baby's age! Bummer. Well, in a couple years the 6 month gap won't matter as much...

I'd really like to join you, but I have a baby class on Tuesdays at 1pm for the next 6 weeks, so I'll have to wait - unless you would be open to meeting on a Mon or Thurs?

Right now I'm working on Wed and Fri, but my schedule will be getting much more flexible in about 3 weeks. I can't wait!

My Coffeehouse! Its in Madison Valley at 28th? and E Madison.

I can definately do anything if its within walking distance to my place. Its the hassle of driving with a screeching baby or trying to coordinate buses to get around that makes life difficult:
