Our family is moving to Seattle this summer for DH's new job which is downtown. We're looking for a good middle & high school for our 12yo DS with Aspergers. He has a lot of support in his middle school right now, and I'm really nervous about finding a school for him there. (We do have an IEP)

We'll base where exactly we will rent off of his school with of course a decent commute time for DH. (45min max)
I have a friend in West Seattle, which sounds like a great area, but her DS is in elementary, and she has no idea about the upper schools.

Any suggestions?
TIA!
You're coming to the district after their "open enrollment" period. This means that your options for schools will be restricted to the school for your neighborhood and whichever other schools have openings. This web page has enrollment statistics for each school:
http://www.seattleschools.org/area/eso/SSR/main.xml

It looks like Salmon Bay is expected to have 6 Basic (I think this is regular ed) spots for grade 7 and 0 for the special ed program.

I think special education enrollment is a bit different than regular ed enrollment in Seattle public schools. Not all services are available at all schools, so depending on what your son's specific needs are, your school choices may be limited by that. For more detailed information, you might want to talk to Enrollment Services:
http://www.seattleschools.org/area/eso/story.dxml

Noooo!! it really sucks cause the company keeps pushing our moving back, and I don't have any definite dates yet! Dh just left this AM. They are flying me up in 2-3wks for a house hunting trip. I think we need to get in to a rental house around July1st. I like what I hear about west Seattle, Ballard (but i think it may be too expensive?) and possibly Columbia City, Shoreline...??? I feel like I really need to go and SEE the neighborhoods though.

If you found a place in NE Seattle In the Eckstein middle school service area you could choose between a K-8 (Jane Addams) an alt (AS1) and Eckstein. You can find the service area maps on seattle school district website.
