I'm wondering if anyone has done any researching of Seattle Public Schools-elementary in particular? We are moving and we will be at our next spot long enough for ds to start kindergarten. So how and where did you research and what did you look for?

TIA!

We moved to the area a couple of years ago and have done SOME research. What part of the city are you moving to? That's probably your place to start unless you have something specific in mind and are willing to drive. Traffic can be pretty bad depending on your route.

Well I was trying to factor that in our decision of what part of the city to move to rather than the other way around. But now we are committed to a house so know anything about the Maple Leaf area

I think Olympic view might be the reference school for maple leaf.
We looked at Olympic hills and thought it was a nice school. Really great principal. We ended up choosing AE 2, an alternative school. There are threads with info about it here, if you search older seattle school threads.

Not sure if you are still looking but I'll give you the info I know. I just moved here and my dd is starting kindergarten this year. I live near Mapleleaf and John Stanford is one of the best schools, as well as Laurelhurst and I think View ridge, not sure if any of those work for Mapleleaf. The school districts here fill up really really fast. They register in January of the previous year so basically what will happen if you register now is they will give you any of the schools with openings in your cluster. You can only choose from those schools. I live directly across from John Stanford, moved here in hopes to get my daughter in but since I registered after everybody I have to be on a wait list, one that is 100 + kids long. So basically any really good school is probably full by now.
If you encounter a different experience I'd love to hear about it so we aren't driving my daughter across town just to get her to school - since it was all that was open!

MomOfCyan-oh wow! I forgot about this thread. We did end up buying in Maple Leaf and ds isn't school age for a couple more years. John Stanford has always intrigued me... I had not idea that wait lists could be so long! Thank you for all the info too and good luck getting in soon!
