DP and I are in TN, and have one adopted son. DP adopted him from a family member four years ago. Currently, I have no legal rights to him. We are interested in second parent adoption, but I am having a hard time finding anything about whether a court will uphold and grant it in TN. Anyone experience anything similar and have any advice?

I second GLAAD, but I think they're in the Northeast more.

Lambda Legal has an office in Atlanta, I think they handle stuff in the south more, and the National Center for Lesbian Rights (Is that the name?) call them.

Also, ask around to queers in your local 'hood, they may have a lawyer they've used who they would recommend.

Unfortunately, I seem to remember the laws in TN suck. (My KD is originally from TN, so I looked into it, just in case.) But you may be able to set up power of attorney and guardianship documents, and protect your family in a myriad of other, less-satisfactory, but still important ways. and Good luck!
