Hello All,

I live in West (lower pennensula) Michigan. I am on a very tight budget as I am a SAHM and my husband is a teacher at a non public school. All this ammounts to 4 people living on not much money

I was wondering if anyone would consider donating me some seeds... Enough to get a good garden started here in michigan. SPACE for my garden is not an issue as I live in the country. I also have all the resources I could need to work in and create my garden.

My main issue is going to be finiding enough cash in the budget to pay for seeds and fencing to keep rabbits out.

If anyone has any ideas to make some free fencing that is critter proof, or has any seeds from their garden or that they do not plan on using I would mus appreciate them. After I have saved some seeds from my garden next year I will pass on the favor to another SAHM in my area that needs seeds.

Thank you so much!

if you live in the west michigan area I would consider trading rabbit or horse manuer for fencing or seeds.

If interested in helping out please email me at:

[email protected]

I will have some tomato seeds to share with you!

Are you familiar with Pine Tree Garden seeds? They sell small packets of seeds for home gardeners for very reasonable prices.

What are you interested in in particular?

I will subscribe and when I find the seeds I have that are packed from my move I will see what I have to share.

As for the fencing, are you a member of your local freecycle?
If you have a local group to join it is really neat. You just post what you have to offer or what your are in search of and people email back and forth about picking it up, everything on it has to be free. freecycle.org has the listings, I really like this great group of generous people.

If you have any farmers close to you I would ask if they had any old fencing they weren't using. I know my IL's keep everything and we're always finding scraps of stuff to use.

when you get a squash, save the seeds. NO need to buy your own. I have found that most (not all) squash seeds come back true to type.

I had a cucumber reseed itself this year and just harvested my last four cukes yesterday. my plant is done now but I have had cukes in Nov!!!!

I've got a bunch of garlic chive seeds and runner bean seeds (mix of scarlet and I think a white variety) which produce nice green beans. I probably have some other random seeds unused this year (had a baby so the garden was small). PM me if you want these -- include your address.

How did you plant the sweet corn? If you only have one or 2 rows, it doesn't pollinate properly. If you've ever seen a field of corn, the outside rows are all pathetic looking. I think the wind must have a lot to do with corn pollination, but planting a 5 foot square of corn would yield a better result than 2 20 foot rows.

PM me your addy and if possible your growing zone # so I can send you a bunch of seeds. I have such a HUGE variety of seeds it'll make your head spin. :LOL What you can't use, just pass onto the next needy person.

I have some tomatos (2 kinds), lettuce (2 kinds), carrots, peppers, crookneck & hubbard squash. They are a couple years old, but should still be fine. At least 3/4 will sprout.

Artichokes are not availible in seed readily. Artichokes are not worth the room they take to grow.

Potatoes are ont a seed product. You can get a couple potatoes at the store & cut the eyes out & plant them.

When you have an idea of what folks are sending, could you post an update of what you need? I've got some seeds but don't want to duplicate.

I have not found anyone on freecycle that was willing to donate any, so I remembered how I have not logged in here in a while and was so thankful for all of yoru wonderful responces!
