Mods, please just let me know if I should put this someplace else.

I'm a doula and Bradley method teacher in Washington DC, and one of my students is desperately seeking some donor milk. She is a BFAR mom (breastfeeding after reduction) and she is needing to supplement a few ounces a day right now. Her baby is just a week old and it is breaking her heart to be supplementing with formula, and would love to get some donor milk. Does anyone have any to spare? She lives on Capitol Hill, and I would be willing to pick up and deliver to her. Please PM me if you think you might be able to help. Thank you!

Please let her know about bfar.org if she's not already aware!
Good luck to her - and how wonderful that she has such great support from you!

Hi! I am BFAR, too. I BF my first for 16mos, and had to supplement the first two. With my second we haven't needed to She's 13mos, though, so I'm not sure if my milk is good enough for a newborn, since it changes as they grow and may not be as fatty as a newborn needs. If you think it'd be okay, lmk & I'll get the pump out and see what I can get!

Ack! I did not bring my double pump with me as we just moved to MD. I am nursing a 26 month old so I am not sure if that is ok for a newborn. I did donate milk in California to a milk bank though. Would she be able to get a prescription for donor milk from her pediatrician? Her insurance may help cover the cost for that.

Is she working with a lactation consultant as well?

There are a few homemade formula recipes running around. Here is a link:
http://www.westonaprice.org/children/recipes.html

I know some people who use this or raw goat's milk for supplementing depending on the amount needed.

Good luck!

I will have about 32 or so ounces of milk around Xmas to give. My SIL from California will be here and pumping to keep up her supply for the woman she donates to back home. It'll be in my freezer until I find someone who wants/needs it.

Sorry it's a way away, but contact me if you need milk around New Years Day!

How much does she need per day or week on average?

I'm totally new to BFing, as my first is going on 3 weeks old now. However, I live in DC and have a pump. Capitol Hill is not far from me at all (10-15 mins tops).
