hi everybody,
my name is annie and we moved here in january. i posted on the board in- march?- about my cloth diapers getting schtinky so quickly. well anyway, i am pretty new to message boards and i forgot to do an introduction to myself so here it is! (oh and i did attend one l.l.l. meeting but they fall on wednesdays which are bad for me now as i do my participation day at my daughter's preschool!)
okay back to the matter at hand.
i am 28, have two wonderful girls, ages 4 and 16 mos. and i stay home with them. we have moved every year for the past five years for my husband's job. i love hawaii except for the distance thing as my family is in ohio. oh yeah and that paradise tax...
i like to bike, go to the beach, read, cook, do yoga, swim, and recently have picked up crochet. (i did the knitting thing but i am just too lazy to hold two sticks and the yarn...) i am always up for trying something new!
we have lots of free time on our hands and i am looking to find some play groups, etc.
hope to meet some of you sometime soon! ~annie

Welcome!!!
I feel the same way, I crochet also. Knitting just upsets my carpal tunnel too much. I was at LLL, I am the librarian, can't spell that, I do remember there being like 5 Annies last time though. Hopefully you can make it to a few of our playgroups. My oldest is 3 1/2 and my younger daughter just turned a year. We have a yahoo group for the playgroups now. This happened because we were doing it here and Mothering went down for like 3 days and no one could get on here and get directions, it was a diaster. Yahoo hasn't gone down since we started this in Oct, so so far so good. At least until I say that. I don't have the yahoo address on me right now, but I will get back to you on that.
Kama'aina mama, have I ever met you? You say you have been to LLL, but I don't even know your actual name, so it is all a mystery to me.

VnJW.... I think we have met.... but like Annie I haven't made a meeting in ages because of conflicts with my DD's preschool. I was librarian last year. Of the few meetings I came to this year I think DD was with me only half of them... I think I have the oldest nursling of the group.

Ahhh! I think we have. You were at the Christmas one right? And you got the nursing necklace? Why does my brain remember things like this but I can't remember what we had for dinner last night?
It would depend now. I think that Shannons girl who is like 4 1/2 is still nursing. Natalie has pretty much weaned now. The last time she nursed was when we were on the Big Island and it was just too much for her that day, plus she was sick so to help her go to sleep. Kinda odd. I never expected it to go that way, to just all of a sudden. Well, from a nurse a day to nothing. Though I think that a big reason she nursed for so long was because of Layla. I just realized I have to change my signiture, I am no longer a tandem mommy

yes, Janae is 4 1/2 and still nursing, but it's so seldom now that I think we're going to be done very soon.

I've been tandem nursing for the last 4.5 years, you have to change your sig, I'll have to change my username.

Amazing! Yes... I love that necklace. I always get compliments when I wear it. Bonnie is over 4 1/2... She'll be 5 in August. Do I get a prize? (Nevermind... I already have my prize...I nursed it to sleep about an hour ago!)

Natalie steals mine whenever I wear it. And Layla would still rather grab at me than the necklace, so I don't get much use out of it. I am glad you like yours though!
I was ready and alright when Natalie weaned but I was prepared. I mean she had almost completely weaned before I gave birth, I was so not ready then. But she gave me a whole year to get used to it. So I am glad that we had that year. Kinda funny coming from someone who thought she was just going to nurse for one year, didn't know any better. Thought at year they magically weaned

BUT we totally got off topic with Annie!!!! But I notcied that you found the yahoo playgroup. And we will see you again at LLL, right? And anytime you want to get together and crochet, let me know. Our kids are simular enough in age to play nicely for the most part. Where on the island are you? We are Pearl Harbor area.

valerie, we are in kailua, and i would love to get together, altho i don't know if i will bring the crocheting- i was almost done with this little knitted lei i am making for my mom when she visits in july, and georgia(my 16 month old) comes over, grabs it, and it's bye bye lei! o well, it was for the best cause i realized i was doing one stitch wrong the whole time anyway! i just ordered some new books from amazon- sort of hipster crochet books and i am excited to get em. i just read that any kind of needle work is as good as meditaion, so am glad for thatadded bonus!
and ms kamaaina mom, we would love to get bonnie over here again. is she still reeling from that princess party? gail slept til 9 this morning, i guess all that excitement? i was so shocked i went in to make sure she really was in there! also, do those nursing necklaces really work? georgia loves kneading my boobies while she's at bat. i had scabs at one point when i had neglected her nails.
thanks for the welcome everybody. hope to see u soon. if u know when the LLL spinoff playgroup happens, let me know!

Yes, it is a pain when they unravel your work. Natalie likes to "help" me now. I let her have a hook and some yarn and she actually makes the right movements. It is really cute. Kinda makes me look forward to the day that I can sit down with both of my girls and do crafts and such like that.
As for nursing necklaces. It works for some and not for others. It did work for Natalie, but she was always a little gentle. Prefered to pretty much pet your arm. Layla however seems to want for you to be in pain. I have scratches from her too. And bruises, she is going through a head banging thing and she will bang her head on me while nursing. I am sure I look like a beaten wife. And the nursing necklace doesn't do much for her. But you can do some inexpensively. The one I made for the LLL christmas swap was just a jade disk and some I think nylon cord I got at fabric mart. I will wear mine tomorrow if you are going so you can see it.
