Ok so I went to my ped the other day with a wrap and my 27 week preemie in it and he told me that due to his low muscle tone, sensory issues and his size I should not use a sling. Has anyone heard of this before? I trust him to no end and would never think of changing.

My DS (now 5 years) has Sensory Processing Disorder (Formerly known as sensory intergration). When we started therapy with him at age 2 his OT told me specifically that had we known about slings earlier it would have been an excellent tool for his sensory issues. I was using the sling with my newborn at that time.

Slings actually help increase muscle tone. The only thing you'd want to be aware of was positioning. Making sure that positioning was correct. The Babywearing book by Dr Maria Blois has an entire chapter dedicated to premies and babywearing, if you havent checked it out yet I highly recomend it.

Goodluck!
