My husband (yes, you read that right..LOL) is trying to sew prefold diapers into fitteds. The instructions we read say that you have to serge the edges. We don't have a serger. How do we get around that step? What kinds of stitches does he use?

You could try a narrow zig zag like you would if you were doing applique. Otherwise I would use bias binding or fold over elastic to go around the edges.
