Ok seamstresses, I need your help again!

DH and I bought DD a baby boy doll (which she'll only get once I'm in the hospital and had DS -so she'll get her 'own' baby
) and we're thinking about how cute it would be if I'd sew her also her own sling since I plan on wearing DS pretty much all the time.

My questions now are:

a) How could I make such a sling the easiest way??? (Any free patterns around?? -or should I try to copy my own sling?)

b) Where would I get 2 small rings??? (I'd need sling rings, wouldn't I?)

I'd appreciate any kind of hints and help!
Thank you!!!

They sell little rings for knitting purposes (not sure exactly what they are for) but since the babydoll isn't in any danger if he falls out, you could use a smaller/weaker ring and not have any problems. You could probably even use two big jump rings (keyrings) There are sling patterns at:http://www.sleepingbaby.net/jan/ but of course you'd have to scale them down to a smaller size

I use a length of fabric about 30 inches wide and about 48 inches long, and I fold it in half the long way so that the pattern is on both sides. (This works best with a lightweight fabric of course.) If you're using a fabric that doesn't have a "wrong" side, then you can just use one layer and make it about 15 inches wide, hemming the raw edges.

I use the Sling Me, Mommy instructions as a jumping-off point, and I use drapery rings for the rings, my local fabric store has a wide selection. I think you can eyeball it and see which ones look like the right size.

My daughter really loves her pouch style doll sling. It seems easier for her to use, even though I never use one myself. When I've made her ring slings, I use plastic craft rings that you can get basically anywhere. Super simple!

If you want to do a pouch sling (very simple, I agree), here is a link: http://www.ida.net/users/stace/size.html

I made one for my 3 yr old and she was not impressed......it's so hot I can barely keep clothes on her, let alone convince her to hang anything unnecessary off of her body. Oh, well. It's cute as a button, was a great way to use up odd-sized fabric scraps, and super easy to make. Maybe it'll have more appeal to her when the weather cools down.

Best wishes!

for my daughters tube sling
i measured from her shoulder bone to her hipbone and measured diagonally on her chest what looked right for pocket depth(exactly how i size for big people slings) it ended up measuring 12 and almost 1/2 inches and 4 inches deep so i laid out my fabric and measured a spot that was 26 inches by 8 1/2 inches, the fabric was about 26 inches wide when folded so i didnt bother cutting width.
then i folded it so that both ends were meeting in the middle. easier done than described. and then cut the middle. so now you have two little strips.
i folded them in half length wise an cut the rounded edge. then i unfold, hem the long flat edges, add decorative stitching if i want it. then i fold it shortways(print side in, i dont see the point of french seams in child slings) and sew the rounded end, i 'serge' mine too.
then you turn it rightside out and fold it and if you want to press it.
i also find it easy to do a little zig zag or decorative stitching on the shoulder too... doesnt separate as much.
my 20 month old daughter didnt even need instruction on how to use her sling. shes already a pro. i guess it must be easier to understand when youre the one in it :LOL
my next project is making a ring sling for my daughter... if you want i can let you know how that one turns out.
