I've been working on these blasted things for days and now I've figured out that the length of the curtains is just barely long enough to fall a couple of inches below the window. I've finished everything but the top and I'm trying to figure out how to conserve my inches. I was planning on doing curtain clips on top but the ones I like are 12 for $12!! Do they make any cheaper besides the crappy metal ones at Wal Mart? And do curtain clips actually hold up and look nice??

Then I thought I might just fold it over using minimal material for a rod - cheaper but not sure how small my folds can be and don't really know how to do it.

So basically I need advice or ideas. Is there something easy and simple I can do? The bottom and sides are done. I'd really like to finish these soon. Blech. I'm already tired of looking at them.

Thanks.

Do you have enough fabric or can get a coordinating but off setting fabric to make "tabs" out of? If you need 12 "rings" instead make 12 "tabs" and sew them on and if need to "play up" the tabs, sew buttons/ ribbons/square knots out of the curtain fabric. was that clear as mud?! If you need a visual, I can try and give you and idea from what I'm doing with dd's curtains.

well dang reeseccup - you just took the post right out of my fingers!! : )

i was going to say use another color and do tabs

to be honest, i look to store stock for ideas too

places like jc penney or linensnthings -- you can browse everything online

i know you'll find tab curtains and other ideas

otherwise i see nothing wrong with using a similar color for the back of the curtain to do whatever needs to be done for hooking/hanging

if you were making tan curtains use a similarly light color and put it on back for pleats, hooks, whatever

Thanks guys. I don't have enough fabric to do tab tops and I should have stated that they are my nemesis LOL. The first curtains I made were tab tops and I thought I'd lose my mind. Obviously, I am not that great of a seamstress. I really just have a few inches to work with and I'm stuck. The material is near denim weight and they are lined. I am so looking for an easy way out.

OOOH! I found some really nice clips at Bed, Bath & Beyond to use on my blackout curtains. They clip really tight (good for a heavy curtain, the cheapies I got a JoAnn wouldn't hold toilet paper up!!) and weren't too expensive. I think they came in a couple of different sizes to fit different rods. Try their website if you don't have a store near you.

How about a 2" strip of a contrasting colour, along the tops and bottoms?
When I was needing curtains in a hurry once, I just bought some satin blanket edge binding and sewed that along the top and bottom, using the top bit as a casing to thread the rod through. Voila! Instant trim.
