I had my D&C last friday (5 days ago) and Dh and I dtd the today using a condom-- we were told to wait 6 weeks but he and I are really bad at restraining ourselves. If we find ourselves in a room with a door that locks we invariably end up dtd .

My understanding is the main risk is infection (which we tried to minimize using the condom) but is there also risk of trauma from the penetration? I had slight discomfort during and bled a little during (4inch spot on the sheet) but the bleeding stopped afterwards. Other than avoiding conception and infection are there any other reasons to avoid dtd right after D&C?

The main risk is infection. I would say that the bleeding is a result of a tender cervix - you shouldn't have to worry about "trauma".

Six weeks sounds ridiculous to me. We were told to abstain until the bleeding stopped, because of the infection theory. I think we waited two weeks, to be safe.

thanks! It seems like the wait they give out varies wildly from dr to dr. We dtd again today w/ condom, no bleeding, no pain, not even discomfort.
