Okay, so for 17 months I have had a monkey on my back. There is this nature trail at my work that sometimes they take the kids on. It is very safe- I work on government property and you can't get in unless you work there and have a badge, and the entire trail is surrounded by fencing so there isn't any chance of anyone from the outside getting in. Very safe- which is ideal for me since I left my abuser.<br><br>
However, for the past 17 months a lot of people told me that I would not be able to walk this trail- it would be too difficult because I was too heavy.<br><br>
And so I never did it. Although it made me a bit sad to see my students going on it without me. But I just knew I couldn't do it.<br><br>
Well today I did do it. It was 80 degrees and it took me forever and I have never seen hills like these. Ridiculous. And at one point they might have sent a truck to check on me <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/innocent.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="shy"> (And I turned down the offer of a ride back, thankyouverymuch!). But I did do it.<br><br>
So I feel accomplished. But only for a brief moment. Because...<br><br>
I truly never want to do it again <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/img/vbsmilies/smilies/bag.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Bag"> I mean, I don't think you could pay me to do that again. It was so hard. Which makes me feel bad- because that is kind of like admitting to the naysayers that they were right.<br><br>
But not totally right, at least I got around it once <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/img/vbsmilies/smilies/joy.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="joy">

And let this be a lesson. Heavy people can do things too, even if the rest of the world doesn't want to believe it. Who cares if you never want to do it again, you still did it and that means they were wrong!

Congratulations to you! <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/img/vbsmilies/smilies/joy.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="joy"><img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/img/vbsmilies/smilies/joy.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="joy"><img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/img/vbsmilies/smilies/joy.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="joy"> Yay, you!<br><br>
I really believe it's the end results that matter, not the process. Who cares if it took you forever? You did it, and that is all that matters!

Congratulations!<img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/img/vbsmilies/smilies/joy.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="joy"><br><br>
I vividly remember when my husband and I lived in Colorado Springs. There was this trail at the Air Force Academy. I swear it was straight up. I got half way up and couldn't go anymore. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/greensad.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="greensad"> I was sad that I had to wait there for my husband to continue on up and then come back to me.<br><br>
But you know what, there were other trails I swear I wouldn't make it. But I did!<img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/img/vbsmilies/smilies/joy.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="joy"><br><br>
Please, don't give up. Keep doing it. It WILL get easier.<br><br><img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/hug.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="hug">

Yay! Don't let the fact that you don't want to do it again diminish your accomplishment! You did it plain and simple. "They" weren't saying, "I bet she won't want to do this trail", it was all about you not being able to... and you proved them wrong! So be as happy as you wanna be! <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/winky.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Wink"><br><img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/img/vbsmilies/smilies/joy.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="joy">

That is a good point! It was hovering around 80 and it was 3:30 PM. We would only walk it as a class at around 10ish in the morning.<br><br>
Plus I have some lazy students, so I would probably be okay hanging out in the back of the line with them <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/lol.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="lol"><img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/orngtongue.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Stick Out Tongue"><br><br>

3:30-6pm is when dh likes to go running in winter because it's extra warm then. Because the earth soaks up all the heat and then starts giving it back. It's actually warmer then than at noon even if it's less horribly bright.<br><br>
At 10ish, you'd have a much more pleasant time.

I wanted to update a bit.<br><br>
The first time I walked the new trail that I have been hitting on the way home from work, I woke up the next morning and painfully limped to the advil bottle <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/redface.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Embarrassment"><br><br>
Yesterday's walk was way more demanding physically than the trail I am used to, yet I feel great today <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/img/vbsmilies/smilies/joy.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="joy"> I think my body might actually be adjusting to the whole "exercise as part of daily life" thing <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/img/vbsmilies/smilies/joy.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="joy">

Careful, get to used to exercising daily and you'll end up like my friend who can't take a day off unless she wants to feel all gross and blech! <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/wink1.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="wink1">

Yay! Congratulations on doing the trail. But it also makes me quite sad that so many told you in the past that you could not do it because of size. Not nice at all, even if they thought they were being helpful.
