I posted something simular to this ...some advice was to put them in a plastic bag with baking soda and let them sit in it a little. I don't think it worked very well...so I am very interested as well :

I keep dealing with this issue too... Things I've tried and how they worked:

1) Dawn dish detergent (non-Ultra)... I've tried this a few times, and it doesn't seem to do any good (and my diapers come out smelling like poop?). Just tried it again yesterday and had to re-wash them because of the poop smell (it's in the microfleece of the FBs). But lots of people have luck with this, so it's worth trying.
2) Vinegar... This takes care of the odor for a little while, then if I keep using the vinegar, it comes back (I suspect the hard water/vinegar reaction issue...). Using it in the pre-soak worked wonders to initially get rid of the stink though.
3) Using more detergent... Helps, but then I get buildup very quickly and get other stink issues. *sigh*
4) Baking soda - this made it worse

This weekend's diapers have been quite aromatic. I have not yet tried boiling hemp or bleaching it. And I need to go look in the archives for that microwave method of "boiling" hemp (I'm using JB inserts, btw). I think I'll try that next.

I may need to just do vinegar like once a week and not use it the rest of the time.

Oh, and when I stripped my diapers (which took SEVERAL rinses after I'd been using vinegar in every wash for a few weeks), my hemp stink came back after the very next wash. :

I've tried everything. The only thing that works is to turn up th water heater SUPER hot and do hot washes over and over with no soap or anything added. I think I washed them 8 or 9 times. But I only need to do this once every 6 months, then they are fine.

Stupid question... How do I turn up my water heater temperature? I've got an electric heater. I don't see any knobs or anything, but then again, it might be in the back where the pipes are, and I may not be able to get to those (it's in a closet with a staircase over it, so the ceiling is slanted and going right over the heater).

I'm washing diaps right now, and I used vinegar in the presoak (some of my hemp is eye watering this time), and I put in half the recommended amount of detergent. That was apparently way too much... I opened up the washer during the wash cycle, and all I see are suds! Where are my diapers? :LOL I'm going to have to do major rinses after that one...

Bleach here also. When we first started cds we had horrible, eye watering stink. Dh was going to toss the whole lot. Endless washes and boiling was not an option. I do a precautionary cold water bleach soak every month or so and never had stink again. This is only done on hemp and sometimes pf. My inserts have lasted over three yrs so its not killing them.

I'm all about the easy fix
