One of my friends was very bent on circ and nothing would disuade her. Her first son was circ'd and this one was going to be too. But guess who got a surprise in the delivery rooM? That's right a big old baby girl. She was born 2 weeks ago. Naturally because she came to fast for the epi, and is bf'ing because she would throw up formula. Smart little girl isn't she?
Anyway in lieu of all the "they cut him anyway" stories I thought we could use a little unexpected sunshine.

In the US no it is not legal. Not to say it doesn't still happen. But I am sure the baby was not cic'd. We grew up with that being a BIG taboo and I know she herself is intact. I have known her since she was 4 and we took many baths together as tots.

Here's a picture of a vulva. Keep in mind there's a lot of variation in coloring, size of things, etc. But in general this is what a woman looks like. If she were circumcised, a woman might be missing her clitoral hood, clitoris, inner or outer labis, or all of the above. She might also have her vaginal opening sewn shut (infibulation.) Am I missing anything?

Get a hand mirror and compare.

after today's events (refer to Pediatrician didn't listen!!) I have changed my views on circumcisions.

My mom told me just as i was posting that i wasn't circ'ed ( i just got off the phone with her ) that female circumcision is a middle eastern thing, and that its thier way of taking sensitivity away from thier daughters so that sex doesn't feel as good for her as it would for her husband. :| i don't know if this is true or not but it sounds pretty weird to me.

It disgusts me that if someone circ'd their daughter (illegal as of 1997 in the US) then they would be jailed, but if they didn't circumcised their son then they would get all kids of comments about how terrible it is that they left him intact. I hate double standards
I'm glad female circumcision is illegal, but
why can't they protect boys too!

love and peace.

It's done for almost exactly the same reasons. Aesthetics and cleanliness, but I have a fussy babe and can't find the link right now... *hands the baton to someone else*

http://www.cirp.org/library/history/ This is a good history of how circ of males came about. It orginally became big in this country as a cure for masturbation. I think it continues to be common because to go against is to essentially say that we have been doing something wrong to our sons for a long time. And becomes at least in the US most adult males are circ'd it would be saying that something is wrong with their own genitalia. My dh is circ'd and it was very hard for him, despite having several complications from his circ, to admit that something was taken from him. After he came to terms with it he started restoring. Not saying that every circ'd man should but he feels comfortable doing this. It was hard. And he doesn't hate his parents for doing it, he knows they knew no better at the time.

This is a very long article...

From the late 19th century until the 1950s, it and other more invasive procedures, including excision of the clitoris and infibulation were practiced in Western countries to control female sexuality, and were advocated in the United States by groups like the Orificial Surgery Society until 1925. Doctors advocating or performing these procedures claimed that girls of all ages would otherwise engage in more masturbation and be "polluted" by the activity, which was referred to as "self-abuse" [3].

Through the 1950s, some doctors continued to advocate clitoridotomy for hygienic reasons or to reduce masturbation. For example, C.F. McDonald wrote in a 1958 paper titled Circumcision of the Female [4],[5], "If the male needs circumcision for cleanliness and hygiene, why not the female?

A number of reasons are put forward for the practice of FGC. These include the belief that it annuls or moderates sexual desires in women. It is also believed that it is more hygienic. Frequently the practice is associated with traditional initiation rites. Some believe religion justifies the practice.

Restoring is stretching the skin on the penis, the remaining foreskin, to once again cover the glans. It cannot restore the ridged band or frenulum, and only some of the sensitivity, but it helps. There are sticky threads about restoring at the top of the forum.

Restoring is the practice of slowly stretching the skin over the penis to lengthen the amount of skin he has left. In the end he will have enough to cover the glans. However he will never have a fenulum or the rigid band. He has a very tight circ that causes him to have painful erections and pulls his penis into a dramatic curvature. He has already regained some sensitivity in the glans as it is no longer exposed to friction during the day. It will take several years
