I was in Motherhood Maternity today looking at nursing bras when I overheard another mom ask the salesperson about their nursing tanks. I thought I would let her know how they worked out for me and also where I had gotten some other ones...well we got to talking and somehow the conversation turned to how often our babies sleep at night (she has a 3-month old) and she said: "Yeah well I don't like to do it often, but when I need to give her formula she sleeps for 12 hours! She sleeps for about 7 with breastmilk...
: WTF? Why would she NEED to give her breastfed baby formula- to sleep? Babies aren't supposed to sleep 12 hours straight!!!!! SO annoying. Then I had another mom tell me that her son had a reaction to dairy products, and couldn't even eat meat because of the trace amounts of calcium- SHE THOUGHT HE WAS ALLERGIC TO CALCIUM
: When I asked her if she breastfed, can you guess her response? NO! Are people complete morons? Sorry just had to rant.

this might be a stretch but maybe she can't pump much and has evening commitments and he gets formula when she's gone. I had to give ds#1 formula when he was away from me when he was nursing b/cuz after he was 6wks or so I couldn't produce for the pump. and that's a medela symphony!

but yeah...7hrs is great for a breastfed baby! if you want your bfed baby sleeping that long that is.

i work at a portrait studio btw, and see infants everyday...talk about baby feaver....I ask just about every mom who comes in if they are nursing, and 9 times out of 10 i hear the same response, NO. and I had 2 very young moms tell me they FF and their babys slept threw the night from day 1!! WHY is this? I would be so scared if i went to bed at 9pm and woke up at 7am to realize my baby is still asleep?! my 3.3 year old seldom sleeps threw a night....

It is very possible that she works night shift sometimes and dh has to give the baby formula if she isn't able to pump enough. This has happened to me. I have had all kinds of trouble with supply lately. He gets enough when he nurses but I can't pump enough for one feeding sometimes, then on top of that I got mastitis. So you may want to get all the facts before you jump the gun. I don't mean to sound harsh, but this is a very touchy subject for me lately, it broke my heart and I cried for three days because I had to suppliment with formula.
