Hi ladies
I have a silly question that I should probably know the answer to, but I am brain dead at the moment.
My little sister called to ask me how I knew I was pregnant when I had my kids. She thinks she might be 'cause she's been very naseaus and throwing up a good bit for over a week.
When I asked her if she was late for her period yet she said no, it wasn't due for two more weeks. Her last period was normal.
So either she got pregnant on her last cycle and had a breakthrough period or she's not pregnant, right? How in the world would she get pregnant three weeks before her period? I mean I guess she could, but not likely right?
She doesn't want to test 'cause she thinks it would be too early to tell (seeing how she is 2 weeks from her period starting)
Any thoughts?
i figured this was a good forum to ask on

She could have gotten pg her last cycle and had a breakthrough period. Or she could just have a virus. If she is not due for her period for 2 more weeks then right now she would be around ovulation time. Since there is now way to know when she ovulates tho that is a guestamite. She could ovulate anywere in her cycle.
Unless she did get pg last month it would be way to early to get a if she isnt due for af for 2 weeks. It is also very unusual, tho not unheard of, for her to be nauseas now and for the past week. I am thinkng she probably has a virus. But she may be pg

The way a womans cycle works is that you have your period then usually around cycle day 8-18+ (you can of course ovulate earlier than day 8 or later than day 18) you will ovulate then 12 to 18 days later af comes (that also varies a lot from cycle to cycle and woman to woman, anything less than a 10 day lp tho is cause for concern).

I probably just confused you good didnt I

2 weeks before your period is when you ovulate. If she did have a normal period last month then no, she is NOT pregnant. But if she wants to get pregnant now would be a great time to have sex

If it is too early to get a + then it is too early to feel morning sickness.

Tell her to pick up a book or two on fertility. It will ba a ton less stressful for her if she knew her body a little bit more.

Hope this makes sence. I have a full blown migraine and it is hard to get my thoughts out (trying to distract myself by getting on 'puter)

if you are far along enough to have symptoms like that, you are far enough along for a test to be accurate. chances are she is not pregnant if her period isn't even late.

yep, you are all right. she is not pregnant. she took a home test and it was negative. which is a good thing. she's a college kid and approaching finals week, so finding out she is NOT pregnant was a stress relief. apparently she never really thought she was pregnant but my mom did the whole mom thing, "Oh my god are you pregnant!!!" when sis told her she was sick. Which sent sis into a tailspin.
anyway....thanks for your comments. I had told her pretty much the same thing you all said but wanted to make sure I was right (as it's been a while since I worried about fertility!)

That's not always true. I had extreme nausea, food adversion, headaches, bloating, breast tenderness, all the signs 2 weeks into my pregnancy. . I waited and tested 1 week before my period was suppose to start and I was pregnant. Found out later it was with twins, but still, a woman can feel symptoms of pregnancy very early on...

Maybe get her a copy of Taking Charge of Your Fertility as well. I was already a doula and married and thought I had a good understanding of fertility, but I was amazed at how much I still missed! Wish I had had that information when I was 15 - it would have saved me a lot of confusion. It's a very simple read and very informative.

I know this issue is all cleared up with your sis, but I just had to agree with angie7, I was only one or so weeks into my first pg and started to have this strange noxious feeling...
