Just a little vent here...We switched recently to a new dentist and my new hygenists has a ton of questions about how our son came to be.
: When I said we used a friend as the donor she basically asked if we had sex! I am happy to share our experience, especially in a friendly environment (one of the dentists is openly lesbian & has adopted their 2 dds) however, the dental chair isn't really where I thought I would be sharing.

Anyone have any other interesting inquiries?

i have had a few of these............. it really bugs me when people start getting nosy about how we conceived children. Do they ask straight couples this question? No I dont think so

I had a friend of mine say when I got pregnant first cycle with my son, how great it was because I didn't have to have sex with donor too much!!!!!!!!!!
: What???? As if!!!!

often people say to me i must have had IVF, I say that's only if I had a problem conceiving, which I don't. I just sperm needs to meet egg and there's more than one way for that to happen. The rest I leave up to them!!!

Would it not be common sense to know that lesbian couples have the same alternate methods of conceiving / adopting as straight couples !?! Some people are so ignorant these days.
The dental chair is not the place for her to be asking you personal questions about your sex life and how your children came to be. That was VERY unprofessional of her, if she was interested in knowing about that topic she should have done some research online, not turn to her patients.

Let me first say that my relationship with my family of origin is WAY less than good.. With that, my brother just assumed that we had done IVF and that we were in a ton of debt from it. And that I should just file for bankruptcy.. That's just like my family to assume the worst.. And it's not like he wouldn't know about AI. He's used it on his own cattle and sheep many times before. (He's a farmer)

OMG!! How frustrating. We have had too many similar experiences...
We were recently at a party for a distant relative of my partner. She began talking to a woman there, and the woman asked her last name (there were many people there who were related, but had not met, and most were trying understand the family tree)
We have a hyphenated name that includes both of our last names, so after giving her name, she pointed me out as her partner.

The woman actually responded with "so, besides leading an alternative lifestyle, what else do you do?"

my partner responded with "we have 2 children and our own business, nice talking with you, bye" and took off as quickly as she could. As to, as she put it, save the woman any further embarassment

Good to hear others' experiences. The hygenist in question was so positive and eager to learn about our family that I choose to educate her. Should she have been negative I think I probably would have shut down the conversation. It can be a balancing act. I want as many straight people out there educated and on our side as possible.

Some of my family is pretty clueless too and I am sure one of my BILs (we call him the *******) has no idea how we conceived. Oh well, he is pretty clueless about many things in life so this was no big surprise.
