These look pretty similar. Anyone used both and have an opinion? I love the IV for fit and ease of use, but I hate that they get soaked all the way (because of the leg binding) around and get his clothes wet. Are the Shi Shi Nix better/different? I'm really ready to ditch the diapers while we're out and about, but need waterproof options for the car, etc.

I have both. I like ShiShiNix a little better because they are stretchier-so easier to get on and off and easier for my LO to pull down himself. I think they are a bit more adorable too. But not any more waterproof that Imse Vimse.

If you want clothing to stay dry, you will need to get a training pant that has a fully waterproof outer-no outer cotton like the IV and ShiShiNix. There are plenty of waterproof training pants out there. Just look for one with a PUL outer. And if you really want more waterproofing-look for one that has the option of adding an insert-since most training pants are 'one wets' they don't keep moisture in as much as a diaper. But if you can customize the absorbency, you might get what you need without having to use real diapers as a backup.

If you don't mind adding another layer, I like a pull-on nylon cover (doesn't add any bulk to speak of) like Bummis Whisper Pant. They're inexpensive and make whatever I already own "more waterproof" which can be cheaper than redoing a stash (I got them for diapering an older child, which they were fine for, but then also used them over annoyingly-wicky training pants sometimes when we were out of the good training pants.)

Mind you the whisper pant is kind of balloony. The ECStore has a PUL-only cover for less than the whisper pants that's much trimmer. Plus, it fits closely enough to the body that you can use it with a prefold or flat as a diaper, actually that's our current diaper back-up method.

Mine fits over our Bright Bots and it's easy to pull them down together.
