Hello,
I don't post here often, but I read quite a bit. You ladies are so talented. I have tried to do shirring several times but always end up giving up. Can anyone give me better instructions?

I wind the elastic thread on the bobbin as tight as I can. I've tried by hand and by machine.

Then when I put the bobbin in, it seems to loose the tension. It is a drop in kind of bobbin thingy (sorry, don't know all the technical terms LOL).

I put it on a long stitch.

When I sew with it, it doesn't seem to gather.

Can anyone help?

Are you setting yout tension to the tightest?? That might be part of it. Also, I have heard steam ironing helps with stubborn shirring not gathering. I machine wind the bobbin when I do it. Set my tension to 9 and th elongest stratight stitch I have. I havent had any poblems doing it this way. Hth!

I know I've tightened the tension. I'm not sure that I tightened it all the way though. Will try that. Thanks!!!

I'm curious if there is different elastic thread too! I just bought some at JoAnns.

aha! so tightening the tension was the trick! Thank you so much! I just did a few rows on some scrap material. I need to go shopping for some fabric now as the fabric I had intended to use, I used for something else since I couldn't figure out the shirring LOL!

Thanks again!
