DS is 15 months old and is only 29" tall. Last I checked, that's not even on the charts. Should this warrant a trip to the doctor? He is 24 pounds and is still not very interested in solids, but he nurses a lot. He seems to be on track developmentally, he just started walking this month and he says a few words. I think I am mostly concerned because DD has always been in the 99th percentile for height and weight. We don't vax or do well baby visits, but I do have a good ped. Should I take him in or not worry about it?

my ds is 18 months, and jsut a little taller than that. our last "official" measurement was at the play place at the mall a couple of months ago, and he was about 30 inches i think. hes somewhere between 22 and 24ish pounds i think.

i wouldnt worry about it if everytihng else sounds fine. our doc didnt mention anything about his size at his 12 month appt. as for my son, his motor skills are exceptional, and his his speaking/signing has gone crazy in the past couple of weeks. hes pretty much at or above his age for all his milestones, so im not worried about him being a peanut. just means his clothes last longer, lol

my dd has been off the charts most of her life. Remember, someone has to be at the other end of the charts.

Thanks for the input. I will stop worrying! I think it surprised me to see DS a head shorter than the other toddlers at the park. DH and I were talking today and he said that he was small for his age as a child too, so I guess it makes sense.

My DS is a shorty. At 21 months he's about 31 inches. No big whoop. My DS is not very tall and I am of average height so it makes sense. It annoys me when people always ask where he is on the charts (oh, those magical know everything charts....

According to one of the online charts I checked, 29" is 9th percentile -- so he is on the charts. On the other hand, 24 lbs. is 65th percentile, so he is a little disproportionate - I'm assuming he'll walk a lot of that baby fat off soon!

What's your family gene pool look like? Is everyone tall? Then I'd worry a bit, and just ask the next time he gets sick. If you've got some shorter people around, I'd be less worried. My kids have very different height/weight ratios - ds is tall and thin, dd medium and solid.

Also, how are you measuring him? Toddlers are still measured laying down (which is hard to do accurately). When you stand up, you're actually a bit shorter.
